Wick & Fable replied to the topic Young bunny not eating hay or pellets in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 9 months ago
How is his behavior? Does he seem nervous or scared? He has transitioned to a new environment, so it may take some time for him to feel safe enough to eat. Notably, I would recommend against pellets that have veggies and fruit mixed in — rabbits are selective foragers, so a rabbit will learn to only eat the “treat” bits in it and not the actual…[Read more]

I got a young bunny (estimating he’s between 4 & 6 mo old) from a store 2 wks ago. The store didn’t have much info on him & as a first bunny owner, I wasn’t sure of what to ask. He’s about 1 lb & is a himalayan dwarf.
I began feeding him regular Timothy hay. I also gave him Timothy based pellets with the dried veggies & fruit mixed in. For a week…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Bunny Mama worried about the aging process of her precious baby in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 9 months ago
Bunnies slow down as they age. There will still be bursts of energy, of course, but you will probably notice more periods of rest. This isn’t anything to be concerned about. As long as they are still doing “normal” things, it’s probably safe to assume that they are simply slowing down a bit. Try not to stress too much. At 7 years old, it’s very…[Read more]

Yeah, it looks like a callus to me. What ointment did the vet give you? An OTC cream like Bag Balm may work just as well. I guess it depends on how expensive the stuff your vet prescribed is.

DanaNM replied to the topic Male rabbit STILL won’t stop humping in the forum BONDING 5 years, 9 months ago
Mounting and spraying can definitely be part of the bonding process, even when there are no hormones left. I know of some bonded pairs where the male will still spray the female daily.
Have you done any pre-bonding with them (cage swaps)?
I’m interested to hear what happens if you don’t intervene as much, and a bit more about the bonding space…[Read more]

I just ordered hay from an Etsy store; it’s fairly expensive but it’s really amazing quality. It’s called Fays Hay, I ordered the green supreme:
The one I got is a soft, third cutting. But my picky bun loves it! He has an ear infection currently so I think it’s painful for him to eat/chew, but this hay is something he’s constantly eating (an…[Read more]

My male rabbit has been neutered for a month now, my female was spayed a few months ago now. I introduced them when he was two weeks post op, and asked for help on this forum, due to his persistent humping, and was advised to wait longer, and I did. It’s now been a bit over four weeks now, and not a thing has changed. All he wants to do is hump, h…[Read more]

When Vilde had an enclosure at my mum’s (he’s now free roam there), I used a vinyl table cloth (the type with a fabric backing, you buy them per meter or yard from a big roll in home improvement stores). The enclosure was smaller than the table cloth so the edges of the table cloth stuck out about a foot on all sides. Table cloths like that are…[Read more]

I agree with Dana. With an experienced vet the surgery is very safe. My girl is 6 and when they spayed her she had quite advanced cancer. Thankfully the spay removed it and she’s been doing wonderfully. A rescue near me recently spayed an 8 year old, who also had cancer, but unfortunately hers had spread 🙁 . She’s doing well right now though luc…[Read more]
