Vet decided yesterday to switch Charlie’s antibiotic to Doxycycline for 7 days. She had no problem with it last night or this morning. I was willing to give the other another chance if he wanted but he thought best to switch for now. She’s sneezing a bit more today and had a small amount of thick discharge on her whiskers. We moved some thing aro…[Read more]

Thanks all! Fortunately our bunny has not taken much interest in the rug (yet) so we haven’t had to put anything down! She has had some “accidents” but only on the hard wood floor or in the bed we got her.

Would it be a deterrent if you cut pieces of fabric and tied them (so they are hanging like icicles; not creating loops to hang onto) all over the ceiling of the cage? I’m just thinking of visual distractors that make the ceiling less of an inviting place to crash into.

Thank you so much for your reply Bam it’s much appreciated and makes me feel a lot better. I thought the stitches looked like they are healing well. Today is day 7 so the poor little fella has a few more days to go in his cage just to be safe. Thanks again. 😊

Theres nothing that looks worrisome in the picture. The most common problems that can occur with a neuter are chewing of the stitches soon after the rabbit comes home, or a hematoma causing excessive swelling of the scrotal sacks, (or one of the scrotal sacks). Chewing mostly occurs if there’s inadequate pain relief. A scrotal sack can become t…[Read more]

I tried attaching cardboard over the bars. Shes some sort of wizard, and manages to get little paw holds on the few places not covered. shes also doing it right where the door is, and I cant put a lot there to block because the door wouldn’t open otherwise. I had attempted to tie a blanket on the inside to literally lower the ceiling so she…[Read more]

So they did a swab and looked at it under a microscope and said it was a cylindrical bacteria and I believe it started with an A-but that’s all I can remember. The vet did say it was a very stubborn bacteria.
I do believe in his last visit the vet did say the eardrum was ruptured

Did I read that right in that she’s hanging upside down from the inside of her cage ceiling? wow! LOL I’m impressed.
I wonder if you could zip tie a piece of cardboard to the inner roof of the cage where she is grabbing on?

Louie is definitely one of these bunnies… he also sleeps with his eyes open. Sometimes I have to double check because it’s a little alarming.

Yes, deep sleep face twitches are especially creepy if they are sleeping with their eyes open. I think everyone is alarmed the first time the witness it.

I got a better picture today which looks like the stitches I believe. To me they look like they are healing ok.

You said the first vet did a swab? Was there a culture or did they guess what the bacteria was?
If it were me, I would finish out the course of Bactrim. If an actual culture wasn’t done, then perhaps it would be useful to see what the bacteria is and what it is sensitive to (hopefully something that is rabbit-safe!). At the very least, you will…[Read more]

Whew, glad to hear! He likes to flop and roll around on his mat, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him sleep that deeply before.
Thank you so much, I feel a lot better knowing that he’s doing just fine. 😀

Some fun news on our part; we sent in an application for a puppy at a local shelter! My (and the bunnies’ room) is pretty separated from the rest of our house, so keeping the puppy and the bunnies separate shouldn’t be a problem. Hoping he’s a match for us!!

OK so I talked to one of the lead bonders at the rescue about this and she had a couple thoughts!
First though, I just re-read your first post and see that it’s been about 4 weeks since his neuter. 4 weeks is the avg time for hormones to settle, but of course it can take longer in some bunnies. So waiting a couple more weeks might be a good next…[Read more]
