Unless it’s actually freezing in your house, your bunnies will be fine. Most bunnies like cooler temperatures anyway. So a short time without power isn’t something to be concerned about, in my opinion. If it came to it, you could make your bunnies a house out of a box and fill it with hay. They know how to keep themselves warm.

Hi Azerane! Nice to see you, although I wish it was under better circumstances. I do remember all of the problems Luna had with EC and the damage it caused. I’m actually not surprised it has come to this regarding her eye. While we would like to avoid having even a bad eye removed, sometimes these things just happen when EC is involved. I’m sorry…[Read more]

When my dog had a bulging disc, we had to keep her confined for a month. The treatment was a steroid and limited movement. It took a long time, but she did get better. Unfortunately, rabbits do not do well on steroids. They are best avoided, except in a few very extreme circumstances where the benefits actually outweigh the risks. A bulging disc…[Read more]

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, but since Apollo and Luna were posted on this forum when I adopted them it only feels fitting to share this next step in Luna’s story.
Luna’s eye was damaged about 2.5 years ago when she had E. cuniculi. In April last year her eye developed uveitis and she’s been on eye medication ever since to manage the…[Read more]

When there is a bulging disc, there is inflammation esp when the injury is fresh. Inflammation takes up space and puts pressure on nerves and nerve roots. If the NSAID brings the inflammation down (as it’s supposed to), there will be less swelling and more room for the nerves and the structures can start to heal. It can take a cpl of weeks for the…[Read more]

Thank u so much for the response. We are one week of NSAIDs today and she is still pretty weak in the hind legs. I am glad you said it takes a while. I was thinking she isn’t responding to treatment. It’s so hard to see her struggle with some movement and not being able to jump anymore. She was the most active little bun up til 1/1/24. Makes me…[Read more]

I haven’t been through this with a rabbit, but I have with a dog and humans.
The severity of this depends on how big part of the disc that’s protruding and what structures it is putting pressure on. 6 days on NSAIDs is a very short time. I think you will need to keep her on NSAIDs for quite some time, but after 1-2 weeks it might be possible to…[Read more]

I’m glad you seem to have figured it out! Sucralfate is a very good drug if he has an ulcer or the beginning of an ulcer.

Last update!
The vet thinks dehydration plus a possible ulcer made the antibiotic and meloxicam too harsh on his GI System. She gave him subcutaneous fluids to rehydrate his GI System and prescribed him Sulcrate for 1 week and so far he’s recovering great 🙂
Vet said the “crusting” on his front paw has cleared up but he might have arthritis in…[Read more]

hi! my bun was getting sticky cecotropes and i read it can happen when they have too many starches. my bun only gets a small piece of fruit at bed time, so i eliminated starchier fruits for a while and stuck with just berries, no bananas at all (she hates me for this) and it solved my problem. i have since been able to add apples successfully and…[Read more]
