DanaNM replied to the topic Advice on bonding a trio in the forum BONDING 2 years, 1 month ago
So, disclaimer that I have tried and failed to bond a trio a few times LOL, so take my advice with a grain of salt (I have 2 girls that absolutely did not want to be bonded so I stopped trying).
Is is possible for you to house all the single buns in the same room? If not, then I think it would be beneficial to rotate which buns are neighbors, so…[Read more]

Sometimes creams can make things worse as they flatten the fur that’s remaining. I would focus on keeping her environment clean, dry, and as soft and cushioned as possible. Memory foam mattress toppers and bath mats are great for sore hocks.

I see bonding/neutral territory as helping buns get closer to each other. However, these two are very close as is with no fights already. With these two, they will not get closer with this tactic either; YoungBun will naively go and explore while ElderBun sticks to safety. I’ll see what I can do to get them closer though.
They are *both*…[Read more]

Yes thank you LBJ10 and Bam for the suggestions! He’s improving a little more!
Last friday he was prescribed a bottle of “Apo-Meloxicam Suspension 1.5 mg/ml ” with a dose of 1.2 mL every 12 hours for the first day (10:30am and 10:30pm friday) then decrease to 0.6 mL every 12 hours for 6 days. This is his fourth day.
He’s underweight right now at…[Read more]

I’m glad to hear you have found some solutions to the lack of drinking. Hopefully that will help a bit. If you don’t mind us asking, what dosage is he getting of meloxicam?

He’s munched on little pieces of wet celery, I syringed him water im happy that worked too, his droppings have gotten a little bit bigger and a better brown so thats great to see
He is still lying down most of the time and showing signs of discomfort and pain despite being on Meloxicam which worries me… do some bunnies have a bad response or…[Read more]

The scab came off today and there was a small open wound, so I took her into emerge just in case as her regular vet can’t see her for over a week as they are so backed up. Thank you everyone for your responses!

We haven’t gone through another treatment for EC – I have discussed it with the vet, and she said her hind leg weakness is due to arthritis. I give her gabapentin when she is reluctant to move and it helps. Her hind leg weakness is almost gone by now!
I do have Panacur though, just in case… 😀
Thank you for your thorough response! I will…[Read more]

I do remember that meloxicam made a few of my buns sleepy, but that was typically just the first few days of treatment, around half an hour/an hour after being given it. Its not supposed to have a sedative effect, it’s very similar to how ibuprofen works for humans.
As LBJ says, eating less will mean the bun drinks less, and the poops will become…[Read more]

Eating less and drinking less will lead to smaller poops. If your bunny isn’t eating very much hay, it’s going to show. I don’t remember any of my bunnies really being lethargic from meloxicam. It would actually perk them up. But they liked whatever the vet flavored it with, so no stress was involved in that (unlike the antibiotics… boy, they…[Read more]

My 9 yr male neutered senior lionhead, Rory, was recently put on Enrofloxacin and Meloxicam for what could be sore hocks on his front left paw. The first night on it he was lively, playing and hopping around, the next day he barely moved, ate, and his droppings got very tiny.
As per vet instruction, i stopped the enrofloxacin since it is an…[Read more]

Have you considered treating for EC again? You mention hind end weakness, but it isn’t clear if this is due to an enlarged kidney or something else. The uncertainty here is that EC can cause kidney problems and some bunnies have more than one EC flare despite treatment in the past.
That being said, literature says the standard treatment for…[Read more]

When you say black spot, do you mean there is a scab? What else have you done to try to help it heal? Flooring? Boot? Based on your description, I don’t think this is something that can’t wait until Tuesday. It would probably be better if your regular vet could look at it anyway since emergency vets aren’t always rabbit savvy and they may not be…[Read more]

I would call the vet tomorrow (Tuesday) and ask for advice. Maybe they can give you a prescription for more antibiotics without an appointment, since the problem is pretty much the same as it was before.
