Agree with LBJ10 on everything, just a few more tidbits to add. Shy bunnies (and even some outgoing ones) often much prefer to be petted outside of their cage/main home area. So wait to pet until they are out in the open and relaxed. Then I usually sit down near them for a few minutes and don’t try to pet. Then I will “ask” them if they want pets,…[Read more]

Neutering will certainly help, but in the meantime it would help to restrict his space a bit. He sounds like he is becoming territorial over the whole room, so giving him a smaller territory that’s his should help. You can attach an x-pen to his cage so he has a “front lawn” that he has access to 24/7, and then still give him several hours of…[Read more]

Wire bottom cages are harmful for rabbit feet.
A very young bun, like your bun, doesnt yet have a mature gastro intestinal microbiome. A diverse and sturdy GI microbiome needs time to establish itself. The best food for a rabbit’s gut microbial balance is grass hay.
As LBJ said, you could try and cut out the alfalfa hay, since he has junior…[Read more]

Thanks!
Yeah so far I think the switching is working out and they are getting used to the timing. They get really crazy right before it’s their turn to come out, but settle down pretty quickly. The poop wars are a bit nuts but hopefully that settles down!I do think I will expand their condo’s a level, because right now I don’t like how much…[Read more]

A small update: Everyday I wake up to a lot of poop stuck on his butt. Maybe the change of diet hasn’t really sunk in yet. His breeder suggested we used a wire bottom cage, but I don’t really want to buy another crate or risk him hurting his paws. What do you think I should do?

Thanks so much guys!! I can do that immediately? I don’t need to slowly decrease the veggies? Thank you!

Hey GraceandFlopsie!
When you say your bun isn’t eating much hay, is he eating his pellets/veggies? Assuming he is still eating other stuff, how much pellets/veggies are you giving him? Sometimes, if you make pellets available all the time or give a high quantity, bunnies will eat less of the hay to make room for the bad stuff 🙂
But in r…[Read more]

When my foster bun had intermittent soft stools (moist poops), I remember reading a lot about it and the suggested treatment (for an adult bun) was to have an only hay-based diet for as long as it takes the poop gets completely better, and then to slowly introduce pellets and then veggies again (and last treats) to balance out their gut. …[Read more]

Maybe! Although she does seem very energetic in the mornings consistently now; it’s just the evenings she can be almost scarily uninterested/sleepy. I’m thinking it is probably due to the fact that both of them may not sleep as well in the afternoon (vs. the night) or the fact that she eats more pellets during the day and doesn’t feel as g…[Read more]

Yes I’m going to give it another month or two and then bring Rummy back just to check and talk about the spay/neuter options and when we can do that. Thank you!

Yep, that suggests a female too. I would wait a little longer and then check again to be sure. It becomes more obvious as they get older. Just remember, the absence of testicles doesn’t necessarily mean anything since boys can pull them up into their body. Testicles that are visible though… well, that’s a definitive answer. LOL

Yes, you can do elimination. So if you try the no veggies for awhile and it doesn’t appear to be that, then you can try no pellets for awhile.

Have you tried just cardboard boxes or making things out of cardboard? I’ve seen tutorials online for cardboard balls and cardboard woven mats. That’s stuff that’s pretty much free to make if you have some boxes laying around. If you have the space, you could make cardboard tunnels for the bunny to run through.
I’ve also seen people clip up trea…[Read more]

I was just thinking… What if it’s pellets he’s sensitive to? Would I be able to do the same and not give him any for a day if taking away the veggies doesn’t work?

It really looks like a female but yes he’s real young so it could be hard to tell. Are you bringing Rummy back to the vet for another check up in another month? Maybe by then it’ll be easier to know?
