I hope I didn’t make a mistake, but I decided to start Charlie on Orbax this morning.

The vet sent us home with a prescription to use if we needed it on Tuesday. She had been producing the yucky discharge for a few days and sneezing, then was getting better the day before her vet visit. Day of visit she was clear and no signs of anything.

    So , W…[Read more]

It sounds like you want to neuter your rabbit  but don’t want to upset your parents. Upsetting your parents may not be something you can change, but you can always try.

Rabbit.org is House Rabbit Society’s website which talks about the benefits of neutering. You can perhaps play to the property destruction and ease of care aspect of neutering  w…[Read more]

I have been giving him treats here and there to distract him while I leave but sometimes he isn’t hungry or doesn’t want the treats but when he does it works great, Thank you.

At a year old you can reduce his pellets. He is likely filling up on those so he isn’t interested in his hay (and if he grew up eating only pellets he might not really know any other way). I would start by checking the recommendation for his weight on the pellet package, and then maybe double that for the day. Then start slowly reducing it and…[Read more]

Another thought that crossed my mind is perhaps you can give him a treat or a toy (or even top up his hay) before you leave the room to distract him a bit?

As long as his hay consumption is good, you can go to hay-only. Some buns are just very sensitive, so starting with hay and then trying each other part of the diet can help figure out the problem. Just keep an eye on his pooping to make sure he’s eating enough hay!

First just wanted to say I’m sorry about the loss of your female. 🙁

Neutering in males is mostly for behavioral reasons, usually things like poor litter habits, spraying, and aggression. Excessive nipping and mounting attempts can also be obnoxious. Unfortunately, unspayed/neutered bunnies are often surrendered at shelters for the same reasons…[Read more]

I’m not familiar with the brand you mentioned, but you can make a pellet mash if you need to syringe feed. Sherwood forest also makes a recovery food that I’ve used (seems to work fine, some of my bunnies prefer one vs the other so I usually try offering both), as does Science Selective (that I have not used).

Agree with LBJ10. This is unfortunately a common problem. We actually have a pinned post about it that might be helpful: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/help-why-are-my-rabbits-fighting-by-dananm/

Sounds like a scuffle happened. Babies tend to get along with everyone, but once they start becoming hormonal you may need to separate them to prevent fighting and injuries. They can be rebonded later after everyone is spayed/neutered.

Are you sure they are all female? Sometimes young rabbits are misgendered. Even if they are all females, they…[Read more]

I agree with Wick. Either syphilis or some kind of injury that’s become infected. Best to have a vet take a look. If it’s syphilis, you may need to treat all of the bunnies.

It may be a mouth sore from syphilis. If this rabbit shares the same mother as others you have, it may be showing symptoms while are not. Are there any sores near the genitals? Syphilis can show with or without sores at the genitals and/or mouth.

Another idea is it might be an injury that is crusting over. Either way, I suggest taking your rabbit…[Read more]

Thanks for the information! I actually do have separate piles of hay for him. He has one in a big bowl at the center of his home and one in a feeder above his litter box.

    hello everyone!

So I have a male mini rex rabbit that just recently turned 4 months old. I am thinking about getting him neutered, especially now that he is starting act out. My parents think that it’s not a good idea and say that it would be just a waist of money and that “I don’t know anyone around here that would spay or neuter their pet…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the reply! He does have 24/7 access to his pellets but only in his cage. Often I do see him hop into his cage and eat some but he doesn’t seem to be constantly eating as he is out of his cage almost all day.

I will try changing his hay and adding some fun to it with the towel/toilet roll tubes and the egg cartons. Along with…[Read more]
