One last thought is that some bunnies get a bit moody and hormonal during spring time, even when neutered/spayed, so that could be factoring in as well.

Well it’s been pretty up and down, as you know! Lol! Just getting excited for Pinky’s supposed birthday this month! 🎉  He’ll be two! Sad that they grow up but maybe as he gets older he’ll be less inclined to eat my things. 🥲

How’s it going with all your buns DanaNM?

I’ve had my rabbit Peter for a few years now (He’s 4, Fixed, and a solo bunny). Recently he has become more and more aggressive about certain spots in the house and when feeding him.  He will grunt and charge at my hand just when I’m placing his food down or If I move any of it. I’m used to him grunting if I move his food but not for just…[Read more]

Thank you DanaNM. I also believe the rescue, maybe the next time he goes to the vet they’ll be able to take a look again. Yeah, I took him home a few days after he was neutered.

It’s the same with my buns! They didn’t do any mounting during bonding. Barely even any negative behaviours. Only maybe one dominance nip on Pinky’s fur from Muffin.…[Read more]

It could be that the rescue just doesn’t have access to a vet they are confident in. As important as spaying is, if the vet isn’t good, then it can be dangerous for sure. If they say he had testicles, I believe them!

Sometimes I think with really smooth bonds, there can be some hiccups later, and some mounting can happen even in bonded pairs. For…[Read more]

    You’re welcome!

I think 6X 4 is a great amount of space to have 24/7, maybe you could just use the second pen add on when you are spending time with him? So that is is bonus exercise space that he gets when you are with him (and when the kids are supervised)?

Totally agree with Hazel about bunnies being dumped at shelters due to mishandling by…[Read more]

I got an email from the shelter and they said Pinky had testicles before he was neutered. They didn’t give me the records but they gave me that info. They also said they don’t do spays because of how invasive it is. But doesn’t it prevent uterine cancer? (I said the same thing in my email to the vet).

Waiting for an email back from my vet to se…[Read more]

The only problem is that I bought the 20 pound bag and feed my chinchilla 2 tablespoons of pellets a day. I’m guessing the bag will last me about a year.

Yeah, it’s kinda funny. Most people from Montana are wire-bottom hutch kind of people (idk why, but that’s what I think of when I think of somebody with a mistreated rabbit) so I’m surprised to find even 3 of the people who don’t think like that on one website, all from the same state.

Thanks to all for the responses this far, this is super helpful and I’m learning a ton. Also made sure to read the responses out loud to my wife at bedtime last night (‘There’s a bunny forum? Cool!’) 🙂 The current ex-pen is 3 ft tall and I have added a lock at the door ever since our friends’ kids came over. We also instituted a ‘no trying to…[Read more]

There could be lots of reasons, it could just be a new behavior, or possibly a nutrient deficiency. What are you feeding? It could also be indicative of a problem with her teeth. Is she eating normally? Have you noticed any drooling?

Hazel replied to the topic Need rabbit advice! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago

It’s totally normal she’s refusing the hay. It’s like having a child that has never eaten a vegetable and suddenly switching their diet to mostly vegetables. They’re not gonna appreciate it. 😆

As the others said, the key is to decrease the pellets. Generally you want to feed 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of pellets per 6lbs of body weight per day. For…[Read more]

Agree with the others. In my opinion, what Dana said is one of the most crucial things to keep in mind:

I do think it’s important to be able to handle your bun safely, but this is more about you learning how to pick up a rabbit safely and carefully, vs training the rabbit to accept it.

Rabbits are prey animals, the only time they would be p…[Read more]

Will a single bag have long lasting health effects? Probably not. I’m not sure what difference it makes if you switch to a new food after you’ve finished the Garden Select. As long as you leave enough to make the transition. The prices between products is pretty similar. Mazuri is only slightly more and the Oxbow Essentials is actually cheaper.
