It is extremely stressful to have a poorly rabbit.
Pasteurella is present in many if not most rabbits’ mouths and noses. In most rabbits they dont cause harm, but in some rabbits, or any rabbit under some circumstances (young rabbits with immature immune defense, rabbits in poor and stressful living conditions, rabbits with some other concurrent…[Read more]

Thanks so much. I think you’re right, some alone time for a few weeks sounds good. I’ve put a blanket over the playpen fence. I think I was struggling earlier with the shock of Maya’s injuries and the vet’s advice, my mind went straight to worst case scenario but I’m a bit less shocked now. I really hope you’re right. Thanks so much for everything xxxxx

I’m following this because I’m about to move as well!
When I have had very scared fosters at my place I tend to let them stay in their carrier as long as they want, and I’ll just put some food and water by the entrance. Then I usually leave them to settle in on their own for a few days. Of course your bunnies have a relationship to you, so you…[Read more]

It’s true that vets usually don’t know much about bonding, even very good vets.
With that new info I think I would go for a full separation of at least 3 or 4 weeks (ideally where they can’t see each other). This will help them forget each other somewhat and let old grudges heal. Keep an eye on them to make sure they aren’t getting depressed…[Read more]

Thank you guys. The staphylococcus aureus is the only information we got from the tests he had a while ago. The vet said the same thing Bam, and that it’s only an issue when there’s too much of it. For some reason I keep forgetting it’s a common bacteria because I was just told that it’s the bacteria causing his chin to flare up. Now I’m left here…[Read more]

George was six when he had it done. Like you we had no idea he had an ear infection until we did a CT scan. He later developed facial nerve paralysis on his left side. Knowing what I now know, I think I would have done it earlier.
As to the extra maintenance: twice a day I put drops of low concentration Aamikacin mixed in Trizedta. I was told…[Read more]

Moxie!!!! I still can’t get over the idea that you bought a house… o_O
I think you’ll do with with setting them up in a smaller, quieter area until they get used to their new surroundings. You being there will obviously help. Once they have acclimated, you can start giving them more freedom.
As for pee smell… hmm, not sure what kind of…[Read more]

I agree. It’s understandable why they would ask about you cat. It sounds like he is in the right place. Hopefully they can get things under control. It will definitely be an uphill battle.

This is tough. Normally you hear of this being done when a bunny has had multiple, hard to treat ear infections. He’s over 3 years old and he has only had one… if it was going to be a real problem, wouldn’t have had ear infections before now? At the same time, I can see why you might be tempted to just go ahead with the surgery. After all, it…[Read more]

I took my rabbit to see the vet on Tuesday. She doesn’t think it was missed during her exam and she was really concerned at how fast the lump developed. She said it might be a few things but most concerning would be a fast spreading cancer. She referred me to another clinic to get a fine needle aspiration done to test for cancer cells, I have an a…[Read more]

Getting a second opinion is a good idea. It’s a tricky decision to make, for sure.

I’m so sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you did the right thing for everyone involved. I’m getting the feeling my pair might be heading in the same direction. I have a depressing update.
I separated them last night with a playpen, two areas in the laundry. But this morning noticed Maya had bite marks all over her ear, about five of them,…[Read more]

Hi Hazel, DanaNM and Ergodic,
Thank you so much for responding and thanks for the link DanaNM. I was wondering whether we were jumping the gun since this is Ju’s first ear infection that we’ve come across. He’s 3 years and 3 months old. Is it better to try and clear this infection and wait to see what happens? But I’m also scared that if I do…[Read more]

It sounds like he is in very good hands, hopefully they make some progress with the antibiotics. It’s very good he has an appetite, it shows he is a fighter.

I’m so sorry. It does sound like he is in good hands. Sepsis is very serious in humans too. Antibiotics (intravenous) and supportive care is how sepsis is treated. Sadly some bacteria are resistent to antibiotics nowadays, but hopefully the vets will find a combination that will work.
I can understand that they asked about the cats, since you…[Read more]
