I just wanted to update this thread for posterity, in case anyone happens upon it in search for bonding experiences/advice. Alfredo and Theo are (tentatively officially) bonded, and the rest of the tale is here: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/small-space-making-things-worse/
One month of prebonding, and one month of bonding later = happy…[Read more]

So, final (hopefully) update – they seem to be bonded! They are free roam in the room now, and besides for the occasional chase/mount from Theo, they are doing really well. Actually, at this moment they are taking a nap, but despite having so much room chose to be squished together in one room of their castle. Theo follows Alfredo wherever he goes…[Read more]

Willow replied to the topic My bunny is picky in his hay in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
One thing I have noticed is that in his previous home he was fed a lot of pellets and not much hay so I’m trying different types of hay (orchard, timothy..etc.) but he doesn’t react any differently to orchard hay so I’m thinking of trying different brands of timothy, Thanks for the advice!😁

When I got my first rabbit last year, for the first couple weeks he didn’t eat much hay but I didn’t realize I was over feeding pellets. Cutting back made him more hungry for hay, but still I was concerned because he didn’t seem to eat enough. I kept trying different brands/ types of hay until I found something he liked and he has done MUCH…[Read more]

Hi, I had an issue with my bun going after the carpet too. I put a shoe tray with newspaper shreds where he was digging, and did try to cover his favorite spots with things like suggested here. That helped a lot. I ended up getting rid of my carpet… But something else I tried before removing it, was put the foam playroom mats over top. They slid…[Read more]

So I just got my bunny Willow recently and he eats vegetables and pellets but…when he eats hay he picks through the strands ALOT, I’m not sure why but he’s always sniffing the hay before eating it. Any ideas to get him eating hay more?

Hi again 😃
Uploading pictures can be a bit tricky, but what works for many people is to upload the picture to your profile, and then insert it from there into the post where you want it.
Or, if you like, you can send me a DM and I’ll help. Can’t wait to see Henry again!

Yes, definitely put something heavy like a 12×12 tile on top of the dig spots. I’ve found that they help them “forget” about the spot. Finding something that your bunny will actually use and play with can be difficult. Sometimes you have to do some experimenting. I like Wick’s suggestion of using fleece. You could also try making a dig box, but…[Read more]

Gracie replied to the topic Looking for ideas: What is my bunny allergic to? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
Hey all,
I appreciate the concern over not just assuming its an allergy. I promise I’m not. And the Vet in addition to doing the examine/swabbing for infections, is taking my word on his behavior. The thing about all of it, is there isn’t really a progression of symptom severity.
He started sneezing a couple months ago. He has a little clear…[Read more]

You mention he has chew toys, but he is not touching them, which tells me he doesn’t see them as chew toys. I would suggest finding what toys work for him. My carpet chewer enjoys fleece blankets she can toss and pull against (I clip them to something so her can continuously pull and dig at it with resistance). With fleece, you just want to make…[Read more]

Hello! I have a male rabbit who is about 1 year old. I just got him to bond with the girl that I have had for a year. At first, I kept him confined while I wasn’t home because he was not yet litter trained. Now he is litter trained and I wanted him to be free range, but I have found several spots where he has chewed through the carpet and created…[Read more]

Two of my rabbits will occasionally go through a couple weeks of sneezing fits with either no discharge or only clear snot. I think they just have some allergies and it may be to something that is sometimes in some batches of hay but I’m not totally sure. I’ve had them at the vet for nail trims several times when they’ve been having three episodes…[Read more]

I agree with Wick. I would exhaust other possibilities first before deciding it is “just an allergy”. Unfortunately, allergies are a process of elimination diagnosis in rabbits. If he hasn’t been given a broad-spectrum antibiotic yet to see if it clears up the problem, I would start there. Sometimes a URI can be way up in there and the bacteria…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Styrofoam warning!! in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
A specialist vet might suggest flushing of the GI tract to get rid of partial blockages that, in your case, could consist of styrofoam.
There is also the possibility that the styrofoam episode has been so taxing foe the immune system that opportunistic microorganisms have seized the chance to proliferate and thrive. Typical culprits would be…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic HELP: sludge or calcium? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
What he’s on is fine for now. Since he’s 5 months old, it wouldn’t hurt to start trying to transition to grass hay. The calcium in his urine really isn’t concerning though. As the others pointed out, calcium deposits are normal and the amount you are seeing right now is likely the result of his “young bunny” diet.
