If he shifts position often, and if you see him “stretching”, like a human who is doing a pushup but cant keep his back straight, then my guess would be gas pain/discomfort. How is his appetite?

Flopping is often a sign of relaxation and happiness, but practically all rabbit behavior must be interpreted in context.

Thank you guys. I really wanted to leave syringe feeding as the last thing to try because it’s so stressful, but the vet was also concerned he would get sick with no food going through him. And yeah the stress is why we stopped after only a few mL. The vet also had to wrap him up and syringe it to him.

Lionhead fur type can vary a lot! From these pictures, I would say he’s probably a lionhead. He has the telltale mane and beard of a lionhead. He’s just more fuzzy looking (as opposed to wispy).

With hay it should smell fresh (not musty) and have no signs of mold. Other than that you are good to go, as long as it’s a grass hay. 🙂 Rabbits and horses have very similar digestive tracts, so things that are good for horses are usually good for rabbits.

Agree with LBJ10, more stress is prob not going to help at this point. A calm, quiet, and small-ish space will help.

I wouldn’t worry too much about hiccups. They are common, especially in young bunnies.

I agree, some bunnies are just loud when they tooth purr. The pictures you posted do not look like “pain positions” to me. As Bam said, you would see a lot of shifting around. And when a bunny presses their stomach to the floor, it often resembles someone trying to do pushups but they can’t keep their back stiff.

How much does he weigh? I’m thinking 1/4 cup may be too much.

Hmm… I’m sure sure what that means either. But if it’s horse-quality hay, it should be fine for your bunny. I think the biggest issue with buying bales is having a cool, dry place to store it.

Did they check for yeast too?
