I do think these need to be shaved, if they are so close to the skin that they cant be cut out with scissors. They don’t look like they’d be possible to comb or brush out. out. It can however sometimes be difficult to find a non-rabbit vet that has the right clippers to shave a bun. I wonder how the fur looks when its dry?

    Water and grease (and…[Read more]

I know this is a bunny forum but I need assistance if possible and even though I’m not active at the moment you are the only animal people I know. Lol.

On Jan. 27 I unexpectedly lost my dad. He went to the hospital for a stomach ache and 2 weeks later I was making a decision I never want to make again as long as I live. I’ll just leave it at that…[Read more]

It looks like a scab. Could she have hurt herself, f ex while cleaning her ears with her mouth.

I had a bun who got sores that looked like that in his ears. My vet believed it was a reaction to a vaccine. The sores healed, but it took a surprisingly long time, at least two weeks before the scabs fell off.

This looks dry, which is very good.

    Hey Bunny Fam

As I have experienced such beautiful support here I wanted to reach out, cause I don’t know if I can make the impossible possible today and go to the vet… Also, I have planned on getting our second bun on Sunday and am a bit worried with too much going on if I would need to go to the vet on Monday…

    So… I just noticed this dry…[Read more]

Wow so many ideas !! I have an old phone book here at home.

About the blanket thing, I have a blanket for here but she sometimes chew it and eats a tiny piece isn’t it something to worry about?

Thank you so much for replying DanaNM & LBJ10!

It’s on her hips down to the rump, right side is worse than left, belly fur is okay

The color of her fur is not stained with urine, in the 2 pictures the mats looks more clear after I tried to wet the area with water and I tried gently rubbing them with small amount of olive oil but with them dry…[Read more]

It is really great that the rabbits get along. What I think myself and Dana want to highlight is that baby rabbits easily get along with others since their hormones are not driving their behavior yet, While it’s not guaranteed things will change when hormones begin happening, the likelihood is quite high. There are many topics on this forum and…[Read more]

I used to grab the skin over the shoulder. I usually had better luck being slightly off to one side vs. in the middle of the scruff. And it’s good to do the injection in a slightly different spot each day, because they will get scar tissue that makes it harder to poke the needle in (and increasing the risk of poking all the way through).

I think there are more rabbit owners than you think that have spent money on toys that never get touched — some rabbits are selective, so learning about what your rabbit likes is a part of the process. Observe the things she’s destroying — how they are positioned, their orientation, their weight, their material, texture….. that can be…[Read more]

OMG, yes, phone books. HUGE hit. They aren’t easy to find anymore though. Sometimes you have to go to the local phone company to find one. I also second the cardboard cat scratchers.

I agree, it looks like matting from wetness and friction. Does she hang out in wet litter a lot?

Hmm… I would think the combined antibiotics would have taken care of it if it was a bacterial infection. Yes, there are resistant bacteria, but that is a less common scenario. I would be interested to hear if they did a culture for yeast just to make sure it wasn’t that. Yeast does take longer to culture too, so perhaps the results just aren’t back yet?

Oh really?! That’s good to hear that it gets better. I’ve also heard how common it is to squirt the pen meds all over the bun’s back. Thank gosh he was okay 🙂

I think I’m just having trouble actually grabbing his fur and making the V or ‘tent’ shape. He doesn’t seem to have a lot of flesh either. Also I need to get more swift with the syringe…[Read more]

Pen injections aren’t too bad once you get the hang of them, but I was def terrified the first time I did one. I of course poked too far through and squirted penicillin all over my poor bun’s back, then had to frantically clean it up and hope that I got it all (he was fine, but woof).

But then I got a pep talk and it got a lot better! It’s…[Read more]

He really is so cute 🙂

Since you mentioned his eating habits, just wanted to mention that lionheads are starting to build a reputation for dental problems. So if you notice a change in his eating habits, def get a molar exam.

Hmm, I’m actually not sure whether they did it just for bacteria or for fungi too. I’ll ring up the vet and ask. Thanks for the idea. He was on anti-inflammatory meds (metacam/meloxicam) for 7 days. After that, we tried something new. We administered the topical liquid ear treatment (enroflaxacin) for 7 days. During that period, he also had…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Should I get a friend for my bunny? in the forum BONDING 5 years, 6 months ago

I understand the predicament. I think since she was happily bonded at one point (which only broke because a bunch of unspayed females upset things), then she would likely be happier to be re-bonded, especially with you leaving for a while. It also sounds like the other attempt would have worked out with more time.

An older or younger bunny would…[Read more]

Thanks for the extra info, but it really doesn’t change my suggestions at all. Spaying and full bonding once everyone is castrated should solve the problem (or at least greatly improve it). Babies and teenagers can be difficult/impossible to litter train, I think you just got pretty lucky with your other bunnies. The puberty timing could be…[Read more]
