Helayna&Willie started the topic Bonded Bunnies Separated Due to Emergency Vet Visit in the forum BONDING 5 years, 6 months ago

    Hello all,

This weekend my bunny Magnolia went into pretty bad G.I. stasis, and was not getting better on meds. She was refusing her critical care and even choked on it a bit, so I took her to the emergency vet (2+ hours away). I never separate Magnolia and Willoughby (her mate) for vet visits, and brought Willie this time as well, however since…[Read more]

I Have a small Lionhead, I give him 1 cup of lettuce with 4-6 pellets 5am morning,  I fill a 1/4 cup of pellets and put half in a treat ball, some in a paper bag with hay and a few in a scratch and find box, at the end of the day whatever is left from the cup goes into a dish for him at 4pm, he used to eat hay and poop in his litter fine then I…[Read more]

I’m so sorry that your bun is sick. Oral antibiotics should make a difference within 72 hours. If you don’t see any improvement at all after 72 hours (3 days), I think it’d be reasonable to contact the vet again, because it is serious when a patient has trouble breathing. They could prescribe additional meds.

Rabbits can have oral terbutaline to…[Read more]

I think you may be on to something with the litter box idea. When I first got Cooper his bum looked just like that, because he was eating so much hay from his litter box at the shelter that he ended up sitting on the wet litter by the morning (they would just fill the litter boxes with lots of hay and dump the whole thing daily). He is looking…[Read more]

If he isn’t molting or an angora, you don’t need to worry about grooming that much. But if you do need to groom and he won’t let you, I have found it’s best to just pick the bun up and put them on a table on a towel, and do a deeper grooming. Give them a treat afterward, and usually all if forgive pretty quickly.

If he’s not molting, then you can…[Read more]

The symptoms you’re describing does not align with an ear infection. It probably wouldn’t hurt to have the vet look though. If you need to try a different ear mite treatment, it’s best to wait a bit after you finished the previous treatment. At least if you’re using something in the same family (which Selamectin is).

Hmm… it doesn’t sound like he’s eating anything inappropriate. What kind of litter are you using? Some don’t absorb moisture as well as others. If you’re not already using a pelleted litter (Yesterday’s News, Feline Pine, Wood Stove Pellets, etc.) then you could try switching to see if it helps.

Leaves of the prunus family (cherry and mirabelle) are not considered bunny safe. For  twigs and bark of those trees, a general rule is that they should be cured for 3 months before they’re safe to chew. They contain a chemical compound that breaks down into cyanide in the stomach. This is also the reason why rabbits shouldn’t have apple seeds,…[Read more]

Thanks! About not touching. I’m supposed to groom him every 2-3 days from what I’ve read so far. It’s been 4 days now, and I’ve been postponing to give him a chance to get familiar with his new home. So, I planned to groom him today, but terrified at a thought of having to catch him and potentially make him even more fearful of me. Do you have an…[Read more]

Wick I was about to recommend that same product! It really is the best thing I’ve found and you don’t go through so many sticky sheets. I bet if you get most of the fur off your clothes before putting them in the wash, most of the rest could come off in the dryer.

I also found a rubber hand broom that works pretty well on more rough surfaces.

If they do well in the tub, I would keep going with that for longer and increase the length of the sessions. 3 weeks is not much time at all. You could try doing a 2 hour session and see how they do.

Sticking to opposite corners in a larger space isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It still means they are choosing not to fight, and they will start…[Read more]
