@Susanne I’m sorry to hear about your kitty. 😥 Both of ours came within an inch of death with intussusceptions. They only survived because our vet is incredibly skilled and went above and beyond to save them. Some vets are amazing, others not so much.

Thank You! I’ve been trying to just, quietly, sit outside of her play pen so that she gets used to my presence.

Thanks everyone!
Now we just need our moving truck to arrive… it keeps getting delayed so I feel like we are camping in our house!

Of course we would love some pictures of the snuggly buns!

Awwww Penelope, she’s so cute and angry!
My recent foster-fail Bonnie was the same way. She was very cage aggressive after being in the shelter for 3 years, poor thing.
What I did with her was I made sure she had her own space (a pen) that I didn’t mess with. For the first week or so, I only feed her, but didn’t try to pet her or anything. I…[Read more]

Hello! I’m fostering this rabbit named Penelope, her past owner was neglecting her, leaving her out in a tiny cage in below freezing temperatures, so somebody called animal control. That’s how she came to the shelter. I’ve been trying to get her used to humans, but she growls and lunges with her claws. Is there anyway to fix this?

I’m sorry for what happened to your other bun. I agree it could be ring worm. Can you post a pic?
The litter box setup might be OK, but how wet does it get? It might need to be changed more frequently (try to clean it before she starts avoiding it).
I would focus on keeping her environment very clean, soft, and dry. So you can put down fleece…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Contradicting veggie options in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 5 months ago
The main things to look out for are oxalate content and (sometimes) calcium. Most bunnies can handle lots of calcium, but some need a lower calcium diet, as Bam said, so really you mostly want to look out for oxalate.
Any veggie that is both low in calcium AND low in oxalate could be fed as much as you want. Some examples of this off the top of…[Read more]

It is a bit difficult, because buns have individual differences. I had abun who was not allowed kale, because he had high blood calcium levels, and kale is a high calcium veg. I wouldn’t have known about his high blood calcium unless he had had bloodwork done. Other buns do just fine on kale, so it’s not really possible to say if kale is all bad…[Read more]

I actually ended up giving him a day off and by the end of the day he was being more normal and more normal the next morning as well so we’ve done a couple more dates. No breakthrough yet. I tried not going in the car today and Clover is being more bitey. Sigh.

I’m so glad you got a second opinion! It’s hard when you love your animal and want the best for them but aren’t getting the answers you need. Now you know and you can make decisions with better information.

I’m so confused when it comes to veggies. I know that the lettuce I get is ok and the parsley as well, but when it comes to other veggies there are so many contradicting opinions online that I end up getting something and a week later I read that it’s not good. Kale is an example, some say it’s good, others say it’s not and others say only in…[Read more]

Thank you for the information and although it makes me sad, I would have gone on thinking they are actually bonded and one may have ended up hurt. So thankful I came across this forum for all things bunny! If I keep them apart when no one is around and still have “playdates” for the next two month, until they are old enough to be fixed, wil…[Read more]

The hallway would count as “semi-neutral”, so you could start with the bathroom as your neutral spot, and then once they are doing well there expand into the hallway.

Hazel replied to the topic New bunny family with some turmoil 😳 in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 5 months ago
They should be completely separated until they have been neutered and had two weeks for their hormones to settle. Then you can start pre bonding (switching items/cages etc) for a couple of weeks, then, provided all goes well, face to face bonding sessions. Their bond won’t be broken because they don’t have a bonded at this point. Baby bunnies get…[Read more]
