Yes, an x-ray would be the only way to really see if there is a problem in the bladder. Sometimes a large stone can be felt, but smaller stones or sludge are not easily felt.

I can’t see the pic, but congrats!
I love when bunnies just “click” together!

It’s kind of odd, but sometimes I’ve experienced a closer bond with bunnies after having to give them medicine or syringe feed. If she doesn’t struggle in the towel, I would go with that option. Some bunnies seem calmer without the towel, but others it seems to work better. Giving a treat after her meds will help too.

Agree with others, but you also might want to try expanding his space more slowly to see if he gets better about returning to his box.
If the room is very large, you might want to add an extra box in one of the corners he pees in the most just to make it easier on him (and you!).

Aww she will forgive you. Some things definitely fall into the “tough love” category with bunnies, but all is usually forgiven with a couple of days of spoiling. 😉

When I suspected my Bun Jovi might have some bladder issues (because he was also mounting excessively and marking a lot), my vet did a urinalysis and x-ray. Your vet may decide to do a full body x-ray, so they could check teeth as well as bladder. All came back clear for Bun Jovi so we decided it was hormonal, so that may prob be the case for you as well.

I agree that those are symptoms of pain, and a bout of gas can cause a bun to go completely off their food. Too much fur can also cause some upsets. A lot of bunnies seem to have tummy issues when they are molting. Foods in the cabbage family, especially broccoli and cabbage, can cause gas in some bunnies, so it it keeps happening, you might want…[Read more]

Thank you Bam and Wick!!
That was really useful advice and I’m relieved that it sounds like she will be okay as long as her enclosure is pretty spacious and comfortable.

I use a waterproof vinyl tablecloth to cover the floor inside my x-pen-type enclosure. The tablecloth is bigger than the enclosure so the bun can’t pull at the edges and create a mess. I place fleece blankets on top of the tablecloth to make the area cosy and bun-friendly. If your bun isn’t litter trained yet, it’s good to place puppy pee pads…[Read more]

I agree that if it’s for the weekend, it’s probably easier just to take her. Would they be OK if you brought an x-pen to give her a bit more space?

I’m glad to hear it!
You give 1-2 ml of simethicone every hour for 3 hours, but most rabbits show improvement sooner. If you’re lucky you can sometimes even get to hear your bun fart! 😃
Simethicone is not taken up by the body, it just acts locally in the GI canal and then it is pooped out. For this reason it’d be very difficult to overdose it…[Read more]

If you have reasonably big cage (a carrier won’t be big enough), and if she can be located in a room free from other pets (dogs, most importantly), I think it’s best if she comes with you.
I have brought my free roam buns with me for New Year’s etc. I have a collapsible enclosure.

Thank you for the detailed reply! For the rest of the day since I’ve posted this, Toasty has been chipper as always and has eaten a lot. I went ahead and brushed him, plucked his fur, vacuumed, and spent some extra time with him to monitor him. I also told my mom about baby gas drops, and she says we might have some left over from many years ago,…[Read more]
