DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit Might Have Ingested Popcorn, Can’t stop worrying about rabbit in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 5 months ago
Bunnies are tricky little creatures, because they can be quite fragile in some ways, but they are also incredible resilient and adaptable. It is very hard not to feel guilty when a rabbit passes, but try not to beat yourself up. Rabbits can die suddenly and young for many reasons, through no fault of the owner.
One thing that might help your…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic New bun doesn't seem interested in hay in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 5 months ago
You might try feeding a little less of the dried flower/herb mix, and scattering it in his hay so he has to forage for it.
How’s his hay consumption now? He could have just been adjusting to his new environment as well.

Coincidentally, forum leader @Wick has been giving her rabbit Fable Benadryl for a different issue. She has some info on the experience here:
This also reminds me of a bunny that is currently at the rescue I volunteer at. He overgrooms his chest to the point where it was red…[Read more]

(Just a little disclaimer because I asked this elsewhere and was bombarded by hate. I am absolutely aware that under normal circumstances rabbits do not need to be bathed. I’m only considering it because it was suggested by our very rabbit savvy vet, who we have seen for years, and is probably the only other person I trust with my buns. I promise…[Read more]

Here is Cleo’s Description:
“Cleo is a sweetheart and enjoys lots of attention. She’s a little hard of hearing, so quick movements scare her. She won`t eat hay, so she is on an adapted diet of pellets, canned pumpkin and Critical care. She gets very excited when you putting her food down and can mistake your finger for a carrot. Hi there, welcome 🙂
You’ll want to separate them at 12 weeks to avoid pregnancy. The good news is that babies don’t really bond, so when you separate them it won’t be like breaking a true bond. Buns have been known to mate through cage bars, so you can house them next to each other, but you should have a bit of space between. You might be able…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic New bunny owner, why does our bunny sit in the corner? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 5 months ago
That all sounds very normal to me. 🙂 He might appreciate a hide in his favorite corner so he has a safe zone to rest and nap.

We collected our 8 week old mini lop on Saturday. He is free roam and loves one particular corner in our living room, he will take himself off and sit there for long periods.
He comes out to play and runs around bonkers binking, he is nudging us and just today he has taken to nibbling my sons socks and my skirt.
he is eating and pooping ok.
Is…[Read more] -

DanaNM replied to the topic 7 hr road trip with a new bun – stasis prevention? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 5 months ago
I think since they did well on the short ride, I would go for the long trip together, but just an extra carrier handy in case you need to separate them. You also might find the new location really helps with the bonding. So if possible, you can plan to just keep them together once you arrive at the new location (with a contingency plan just in…[Read more]

pinkiemarie replied to the topic What to Expect When Expecting (A Bunny) in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 5 months ago
Be prepared for the possibility that the new bun will be very scared and want to do nothing but hide for a few days. As long as he’s eating and pooping that will pass and it’s totally normal! Keep his territory small at first, especially if he’s scared so he feels safer. Don’t press your own desire for a relationship. Just sit by him and he’ll…[Read more]

pinkiemarie replied to the topic Help! Is this living situation OK? in the forum BONDING 5 years, 5 months ago
I think unless behavior gets worse you’re probably ok to leave them how they are. I have 3 rabbits and 1 of them has to be lot separated and they were all really aggressive at first but it got much better with time. It will be worse for both rabbits until he’s neutered but it isn’t necessarily the end of the world! If Monkey starts chilling out…[Read more]

This is so exciting! ^_^
Regarding expectations: it’s likely that your bun will be a bit busy during the first couple of days, and doesn’t want to be petted yet. That’s natural, but it can be a bit difficult because you’re so happy he’s finally here.
Bunnies need to make a mental map of the new space they’re in, and that can take a couple of…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss 😥 It’s horrible to lose a companion, especially when it’s a rare situation such as this. Spaying a rabbit is the best thing you can do: the chance of them getting cancer is about 80%.
You tried to spare her that horrible fate, because you’re a responsible person who loves animals. Sadly she probably had a hidden…[Read more]

Update! I tried stress bonding for the first time today as the two were getting along decently well. Did a 15 min car trip with them in the same carrier, and they cuddled up during it! Afterwards they were much nicer to each other for a good 30 mins, which is a lot for them. Since they tolerated that alright, do you think that the whole 7 hours…[Read more]
