To me that looks more like urine staining than anything from poop, but that could be because it was cleaned recently. If there is constant wetness from urine that could cause poops to break apart. Does he pee outside the box often or seem to be dribbling urine at all?

I use pine pellet litter, which is really good at absorbing urine. You might…[Read more]

Have you talked to a vet about the urinating? It’s not really normal for a healthy bun to get urine on their legs, etc, so I’m wondering if he could have a UTI or another bladder issue.

It’s true that some bunnies just have very sensitive tummies and can’t have pellets or certain veggies. You can try an elimination diet (chat with your vet first)…[Read more]

Hi! So it appears that another person has commented about a same trouble on the “Behavior” thread — (they too have a lop!!)

Here is the link to that thread. The responses could help you there: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/mucky-bum-paws-what-im-doing-wrong/

I responded on that thread about my lop and the same problem. You can see my…[Read more]

Hi! So I feel the need to respond to this since I had a rabbit who had issues that looked just like that on his paws but it was on my rabbit’s tail too. First, I want to inform you about flystrike. Flystrike can happen when urine or sludge gets on your rabbits paws. This can burn their skin and cause flies to, practically, eat at their skin. Th…[Read more]

    Hi!

Thanks for your reply. She is actually doing much better now, and have reintroduced pellets (we don’t have Sherwood in Canadá and although we only live one hour away from the boarder, I will need to wait to do the switch), her vet said we can try switching her diet slowly, I think the ox ox hay is just fine (luckily), and in the meantime we…[Read more]

My little fuzzy bun just passed away, she took her last breath around 2pm today. She can’t feel pain anymore and i hope she is now rest in peace. She was one mighty and mischievous little bun. Always throwing her bowls around to ask for attention, waking me up in the morning by nudging and crawling in my blanket. She was my best buddy and now s…[Read more]

@DanaNM – forgot to answer your other question…he’s totally not a digger. At least I’ve never seen him dig in the litter pan. He used to claw at the carpet prior to being neutered and I haven’t seen him do that since. I will try the litter pan screen insert, DIY option. Thanks for that.

OK I’ll have to check out the scent glands and give them a…[Read more]

Nope. I’ve even tried giving him piece by piece and he still does it. I just gave him a piece of Carrot and its no problem. It’s anything soft that triggers it. I’m going to get him celery and other crunchy veggies tomorrow to see if it happens.

Hey there! I too have a Holland Lop (about 2.5 yrs old), and I’m currently going through similar issues with a very dirty bottom (and paws). Your points are similar to mine. It was suggested here on BB that I try a screen for the litter pan, not sure if that will work with your buns. Mine spends an awful lot of time in there as well, despite…[Read more]

It might be nice to try. You could start with a gate and see if their behavior is different than in their normal pens. If things look calm you can remove the gate.

I haven’t tried any other sessions, how the rescue did it for their date was basically the neutral area but there was still a gate separating them so I haven’t seen yet how they would react together without a gate, do you think I should do a session of my own in neutral territory with the gate between like what the rescue did or try it without?
