LBJ10 replied to the topic Can I leave my bunny on it’s own or should I let her stay in a bunny lodge? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago

I don’t think 9-10 hours is too long. Just as long as you leave plenty of hay out for your bunny. Is she 100% free roam? Or does she have a place she goes at night? If there is a place where she can be corralled, that would probably be better.

I think taking her somewhere for a day would be more stressful than it’s worth, to be honest. I would…[Read more]

@Ellie – Keep in mind you’re also talking to someone who has only used a baby gate as means of containment. LOL

I’ve had good luck with “squealing”. If you do this when they nip, it teaches them to adjust the pressure they use. A nip meant to communicate something should literally just be them placing their teeth on you.

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Is my bunny's relationship with my cat too rough? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago

Yes, separate them. He’s a dwarf breed, and they can get their puberty at 3 months. Within a couple of weeks his hormones are going to go crazy. If you think their relationship is rough now, wait until he starts to mount everything in sight, but preferably the cat, multiple times a day.

Hormonal bunnies are more likely to be grumpy and frustrated…[Read more]

Hi! Just got my bunny Alto a few months ago. He will be turning 6 months old in a week or so. Noticed when he woke up from his nap he started sniffing around him and ate 3 – 4 regular dry poops. Have never seen him do this. He usually eats his cecotropes, I know what they look like and he knows he’s supposed to eat them. Just confused why he’s…[Read more]

@DanaNM: yes, it’s likely to be anything fruit-related. There are more animals who like fermented fruit and alcohol and will grab any chance to get it: crows do, monkeys do, elephants do. Yikes…

I searched for a bit about rabbits being booze hounds, and it seems that it’s not that rare. I read an account of someone saying goodbye to their…[Read more]

An idea I’d like to share is what I have for my rabbit!

I have a large dog crate with a bed inside of it. The door to this is ALWAYS open. Then, attached to that is an XXL dog pen (literally huge) and I actually attached two of those so that he has tons of room to run around. I have a cardboard piece that covers the baseboards as well as a…[Read more]

Haha, I will try to find a way to attach photos! I’m not quite sure how..

But for now, the breeder has him on those young rabbit pellets, which I need to ask what they are, and since they are for young rabbits I always thought to get him timothy hay and alfalfa hay but the breeder has had him on timothy hay from birth so I figured I might as well…[Read more]

Nipping is how rabbit’s communicate. You can imagine that the concept of humans having clothes of different textures, thickness, and tightness can be confusing, in addition to our skin. Just like how puppies need to learn the proper intensity of a communication “nip”, so do rabbits, especially to something as foreign as a human body, clothed or…[Read more]

So I have recently adopted a bunny from some friends who found him on the side of the rode. when I got him I could tell right away that he was not neutered because he is not litter trained and constantly tries to hump my legs, there are other big indicators that he’s not neutered but we have it scheduled. So the about a day or two ago I had him…[Read more]

I would not worry about feeding veggies at this point — they are both young, so their stomachs may not actually be mature enough to eat them. If they have been eating them, the veggies could potentially be a cause of the irregular poops because their stomachs are not ready to handle veggies yet. I would challenge the vet’s thought on pellets –…[Read more]

What are you guys complaining about? My buns’ are just entering the phase where petting might actually be acceptable! 😆

The weather is beautiful here! I’m enjoying watching all of the flowers spring up. 🙂 And my hens are actually laying now! They haven’t been paying rent during the winter seasons.  🙄

They are eating mainly Timothy Hay. I’m not sure exactly how much. They have two litter boxes filled with it each day and eat maybe around half of that and I’ll give them handfuls of hay when they’re running around outside the pen as well. They have small amounts of orchard grass and very small amounts of botanical hay as well, both by oxbow…[Read more]
