Hi! Just got my bunny Alto a few months ago. He will be turning 6 months old in a week or so. Noticed when he woke up from his nap he started sniffing around him and ate 3 – 4 regular dry poops. Have never seen him do this. He usually eats his cecotropes, I know what they look like and he knows he’s supposed to eat them. Just confused why he’s eating this poop. He gets greens, pellets, and sometimes a little bit of banana or other bunny treats (like those little rosewood carrot cookies). When I give him his pellets I scatter feed him so he scans around for them, wondering if he is confusing his poop for pellets lol? Just confused and worried. He’s getting neutered in 10 days wanna make sure he’s okay to go through the operation. He is acting totally normally otherwise. My other family says they have seen him do this before. Any ideas? Thanks!!!! <3

It happens. Nothing to be concerned about.

Nothing to worry about, my bunnies do this sometimes as well. Does he also get a lot of hay? I didn’t notice it in your list of his diet, so he might be craving fiber.

Hi! good to know it’s nothing to worry about. Yes I forgot to mention he eats lots of hay. I refill his multiple litterboxes daily and mix in flowers with it. I guess he just likes the taste haha! Thank you!

Sometimes they also clean up after themselves. Our bun is a senior and almost 9 years old. Sometimes he’s a bit slower on the way to the litter box and drops a few pellets while walking to it. He cleans them up himself. It looks like your rabbit may be doing the same. Alto sounds healthy and properly spoilt 😉

Scattering is a fun way of giving food, good idea! 🙂 If he has a bit excess energy you can also fill a box with shredded paper and put the pellets in there. We gave our bun breakfast in it for years, so he could dig and forage to blow off some steam. during his morning activity hours.

I think there aren’t any health problems, so I wish him a safe neuter and a speedy recovery!
