Thanks a bunch Bam. I actually haven’t read that article yet but your comment helped me find the one I saw, and then some! I really wish I’d’ve known about this gene when my boy was still alive. More vets need to know about it.
This is the one I was thinking of

This webpage has a ton of articles linked and is very detailed (although not organized that well). It has a section with research papers:
If you have trouble accessing any papers, let me know. I have ways to access some through my institution.

Above is the link from the CDC with some general information about pets and Covid. It seems there have been some animals who have been ill as a result of Covid, but severe cases are currently rare.
I found some information from the VCA…[Read more]

You are very welcome to open new topics! Bun owners are often worried about their buns. I know I am! 🙂

Hi, my name is Sharlene and two days ago I tested positive for Covid and have mild symptoms. I was wondering if my rabbit could get it too since I’ve been in my room since I found out. I’ve looked up information but can’t find any about this topic. I don’t know if age has anything to do with this but she is 11 months old. I’m very scared for her…[Read more]

It’s the English spot gene, which is coupled to megacolon if the bun is homologous for the allele (= has 2 copies of the same allele). I’ll see if we can find it for you!
Its about the innervation to the colon.

I remember seeing it posted somewhere around here last year. It was about how rabbits with broken stripes down their back and rings around their eyes have been known to be more susceptible to recurring GI stasis. It resonated with me because my first bunny with that pattern experienced it, and someone I know just lost their bunny to stasis after…[Read more]

What is her diet like? And no need to apologize!
Changing up her play environment can help (swapping around tunnels and hides), and there are lots of enrichment toys for feeding (like hiding pellets in things, etc.).

Sorry Dana I totally forgot that you suggested tiles earlier in this post. But thank you both, I’m going to get tiles AND wood so I have a backup in case one still doesn’t work.

Sorry for posting so much lately! We took Blossom to the vet on Saturday (April 10th) and she told us that Blossom was overweight. I try to give her playtime but she just lays down and does nothing. How can I help her lose some weight?

Some bunnies take a long time and are very easily spooked, so what you’re experiencing isn’t too uncommon.
I had a foster for a while that was very similar to what you described. I would simply walk across the room and it would cause him bolt across the room to his hide. He finally started to relax after about 5 months, so don’t lose hope…[Read more]

Untreated pine planks are safe to use. They don’t have the same issue with phenols that pine shavings do. Heavy ceramic tiles might also do the trick, you could lay them down along the edges (I used this trick with our last set-up).

Many of my friends with small dogs will occasionally walk them for excercise but for the most part they use peeper pad.

My Ruby is also a chewer, so I can relate. She actually doesn’t chew foam mats (maybe Quincy wouldn’t either), but most other things. I even got her a natural fiber rug knowing it would get chewed apart eventually. Wood planks have worked well for me too in different circumstances, I get pine or Poplar since both are safe and they can’t tear t…[Read more]
