To my knowledge, Baytril won’t penetrate an abscess. I treated my bunny Moose’s jaw abscess with sub-cutaneous penicillin injections, I had to give them at home every other day for 6 weeks. He handled them very well, and I found them easy to give once I got the hang of it (easier than syringe feeding, if I’m honest).

The vet usually will have to…[Read more]

Ahah! Look what I found. I’m going to hope that this is the article you were talking about: https://people.umass.edu/~jwmoore/bicillin/bicillin.htm The Bicillin Study by Marcy E. Rosenfield (Moore).

Scroll down to the bottom of the page under Acknowledgements and it says this:

Scabs are not uncommon. Swelling could be from him picking at the area.

Unfortunately, I do not have Marcy Rosenfield’s email nor have I experienced something similar.

I also wanted to apologize that nobody else responded to this thread. Hopefully some more people will see this and will chime in.

    Good luck!

Thought I’d give an update; he’s feeling a lot better and has been gradually getting his appetite back. He still won’t eat pellets, but he’s eating hay again, more fresh produce, and a small amount of oats – he’s gained back 200g of the weight he lost, and while he still feels boney, we’re at least heading the right direction. Head tilt has al…[Read more]

Keep an eye on his poop. (Just so you see that he keeps producing poop). If you suspect some minor gastric upset, you can give him 1 ml of simethicone baby gas drops. You can give him 1 ml every hour for 3 hours, then more infrequently. Simethicone is not taken up by the body, it just comes out with the poop.

Rabbits can get more restless when…[Read more]

He’s a very picky bun when it comes to food but I think oaten hay is rather sweet for his palate. From the beginning he’s never had too big of a preference between oaten and alfalfa, and right now I’ve chosen to just feed him the grass hay. He’s eating it just fine but I think the sudden transition is making him a little stressed (or maybe its his…[Read more]

Awww, it’s so cute when they wash you ^_^ Is he a kissy bunny often?

I always close my eyes a bit when Breintje grooms me. I’ll go into “relaxed bunny mode”: eyes relaxed and half closed, relaxed muscles and slow breathing, and purring softly. Breintje started to groom me more often when he got feedback like that 🙂

You are very welcome to make several posts, of course 😃

You can wean your bun off alfalfa now. Normally the recommendation is 6 months, so 5.5 months will be fine. The problem with weaning a bun of off alfalfa is that grass hay isnt as tasty, so that’s why its recommended to do a slow-ish transition. It’s great that your bun has had oat hay as…[Read more]

Hi guys,

so sorry for making several posts in a few days, it’s been a bit stressful in the bunny household recently lol. So basically, I don’t know what is going on with the alfalfa hay around my area but I’ve been either finding small white mold spores on the hay, strange coloured bugs crawling inside the bag,…[Read more]

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic baking soda in paper pellet bedding in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago

Baking soda is fine, although I’d choose an acid to neutralise rabbit pee smells and stains. Rabbit urine is quite alkaline (up to pH 8,8 😯 ) because it’s concentrated and has a lot of ammonium compounds. That’s why bunny pee really stinks when exposed to air for a while: the compounds fall apart and release ammonia gas. We always clean urine…[Read more]

We believe in evil eye. I am not saying you have bad eyes, do not misunderstand me. People look to the person they love most. We say Masallah the things we love and like very much😄😄

I’m so happy to hear that! More appetite and better poop ^_^ It’s cute that she comes to you more often now, and it makes me less worried. A rabbit in severe pain or discomfort would avoid others. It also shows that she loves to eat, which is another good sign 🙂

Do rabbits hiccup? 😄😄 But there is no sound. There is also a very strong spasm, even the seat is shaking. Will hiccups be so strong? I hope it’s hiccups. Because it doesn’t hurt. Thank you for compliment. In Islam, we say “mashallah” so that there is no evil eye.. I want my son, mashallah😄😄😄😄

Hi, @Wick , @LBJ10 , @Bam I caught a new video. I can not upload to the site. I created a video upload link. Do you see if this is a spasm? But it doesn’t hurt

Is he getting unlimited pellets because he doesn’t eat hay, or has he always had that many pellets? I think even if a bun is not eating hay well, unlimited pellets won’t really help the situation.

Have his teeth been checked thoroughly?

I do think that the lack of hay is at the root of the issues, but it would be important to rule out a dental…[Read more]
