Chainida started the topic My bunny pees and poops everywhere! Help šŸ™ in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 3 months ago

    Hi,

I currently have two bunnies Mochi (3 years old) and Benji (7 years old). I recently got Benji about a month ago and he and Mochi bonded very quickly. I have them both free roamed in my room, but Benji keeps pooping and peeing everywhere. I got him from this lady who kept him in a cage, but said he was pretty potty trained. Since I’ve had h…[Read more]

Haven’t been able to find anything lately on the internet. I see a difference in louies behavior. I’m concerned he may be sick or is in pain. Usually he’s very hyper active but for the past few days he’s been laying down, sleeping, biting the walls(I take him off), sneaking some cat food(1 pellets maximum). He’s always excited to get his daily veg…[Read more]

Isn’t granite porous? I would be worried about stuff growing in it and it being difficult to clean.

I’ve been peed on before due to stress… but I don’t think randomly peeing on the bed would necessarily be a sign of stress. Peeing on hay is normal. Perhaps the abnormal peeing is more of a pain response?

I wouldn’t think so. Fruit flies aren’t known for carrying mites. Well… at least not the type of mites that would feed on mammals.

Could you try a different litter? Maybe paper-based would smell less aromatic?

Would it be okay to feed him both? Unfortunately, I have a bale of alfalfa hay now so… I’m gonna need to waste it now. I’m going to the store to buy Timothy hay tomorrow. What is the perfect amount of pellets and veggies to feed a 4 month old rabbit by the way? I usually just grab a hand full of veggies(no spinach or any kale) usually just gre…[Read more]

If he is getting alfalfa pellets he doesn’t need alfalfa hay as well. It is actually sometimes hard to get bunnies to transition to timothy hay when they have only eaten alfalfa hay, so it’s really good that he likes his timothy. So as long as he’s getting plenty of alfalfa pellets I would just stick with timothy hay.

Hi Wick, I’ve seen one of them (Jack) eating cecotropes and he is much bigger than the other one (Josh) even they are from the same litter. Jack will only have like one cluster cecotropes when he first tried pellets and veggies. Once he is on hay only he is fine. Josh is the tricky one. He is really picky and pull out hay everywhere and left h…[Read more]

I imagine if it’s food-grade and safe to eat from that it would be okay to use as a water bowl, but I could be wrong.

If you keep him in an x-pen or something similar you could get a water bowl that attaches to it. You can find a bunch by searching ā€œattachable water bowlā€ on Amazon. They’re cheaper too. 😁

Thank you so much for all the info!

One more question – I forgot to mention that his peeing habits have changed slightly (he peed on my bed – which he has never ever done before since he’s potty trained) and he also peed on his hay. Should I be concerned about this? Do you think it could be from the stress?

Yeah I tried the fruit trap with bananas and it only caught two of them. I read multiple sources that said fruit flies shouldn’t be attracted to the litter and they were suggesting that they could be fungus gnats instead but that wasn’t the case here. Everyone was raving about apple cider vinegar traps but these guys just weren’t having it!…[Read more]

Oh no he had places to hide and Ben was being relentless and hunting him down wherever he went. Just a tiny little bully! It would be funny if I wasn’t so annoyed because he’s chasing around a rabbit that’s 4 times bigger than him. He would not give up for a full day, just nonstop harassment. I’ve got them in the bedroom now and all 3 are being…[Read more]

    Hi,

My bunny just realized it was a lot of fun tipping over and tossing his water bowl around. I tried switching him to a heavy ceramic bowl but he still finds the strength to do it. So I am thinking something more radical – a granite mortar bowl that weights 7 pounds / 3 kilos lol. The added benefit is that the granite will keep the water cooler…[Read more]

Fruit flies and gnats love litter… cat litter, rabbit litter, it’s all the same. You could try making a trap by putting rotting fruit in a jar, covering the opening with plastic wrap and then poking fruit fly-sized holes in the wrap.

Omg I can relate… Bun Jovi is the mounter! But very good that it’s not causing any fights!!

Can you give him some hides or places to escape? With Myra she will jump up on something and Bun Jovi will lose track of her, so he just runs around honking for a bit and then gives up. Or he will chase her for a while, then they cuddle.

I just wanted to update in case this helps anyone else, but I read lavender repels fruit flies so after cleaning their litterboxes I mixed lavender (like actual dried lavender, not essential oil) with the litter and it’s helped a ton! No more flies buzzing around my children’s heads. I guess this experience kind of negates the notion that fru…[Read more]

Ugh well our marathon went well. So well, in fact, that Ben is now harassing his brother absolutely nonstop. He will. Not. Stop. Chasing. And. Humping. Him. Poor Wally can literally get 2 minutes of peace before Ben is on him again and the poor guy is a pacifist so he just keeps trying to find a place to hide. I don’t think I have a choice but to…[Read more]
