I replied in your other thread, please absolutely keep them separated. If they are getting into each other’s areas you need to modify the area or move one into another room. The timing of sexual maturity is not exact and isn’t worth the risk.

Right now they are only interested in mating, this isn’t bonding.

thank you!! I was not getting a good feeling about how they were acting in this new space.  Today was the third long day in it and I felt like we weren’t progressing at all. So I have kept them together I just moved to a space at my home that they haven’t been in. They have been almost back to themselves since I did. Some grooming and laying in t…[Read more]

Well it was interesting to have them together in one of their territories last night for sure. I think it went so well, but I felt so bad for Pancake being in pain. I had one dose of Meloxicam from a past vet visit/statis episode with Ruby that I gave her and that was all she needed to get better. Kicked in and she gradually got back to herself.…[Read more]

    Hello!
Has this ever happened to your rabbit before? If so, how did you treat her? How much did she pee/poo, was it more, or less then usual? When was your last trip to your vet? If it was recently, did the vet inject your rabbit with something or did they give her a certain medicine? Are your rabbits spayed/neutured yet?

If this keeps on going…[Read more]

The night of the stasis didn’t seem to affect anything, she was right back to mounting in the next session she felt better! Oh well. I’ve started taking notes in the sessions so I can see if there is a pattern. It seemed like they might have been cycling, but after the last couple days it did seem like after a couple hours she calmed down enough…[Read more]

I would definitely say we are going the right direction, hopefully it’s enough to make this work.

I can tell she knows the humping is not wanted. At this point she has come towards him honking and sometimes can hold back the mounting urge .. so that is good. Also she has stopped after me or Snoopy told her to stop. But I still did have to…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Help Getting My Bunnies to the Next Stage in the forum BONDING 1 year, 11 months ago

I agree they aren’t ready to move into any space that isn’t neutral. I would try doing a larger space that is neutral first. Litter boxes and hides can also cause disputes, so keep it bare bones for now. My experience with small spaces is that they often have more problems with moving to different spaces, so I recommend working with them in a…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Weirdest experience ever? Help? in the forum BONDING 1 year, 11 months ago

They didn’t fight because they are un-castrated and were more concerned with mating. At 8 weeks she is probably not able to get pregnant yet, so that’s good, you hopefully won’t end up with an oops-litter. Rabbits can mate in a flash, even through cage bars. The way rabbits normally mate is the female enters the male’s territory, so no surprises…[Read more]

Sorry just catching up on things, was traveling for work! Bummer about the scuffle but trying to work through it was the right move. I think when there’s a scuffle it can help to take a step back, so removing hides might help, especially if they are avoiding each other a lot. I think Susanne’s suggestion to remove them for part of the day to see…[Read more]

That’s a tough call. On one hand you don’t want to stress them too much, but on the other they may need some encouragement. You can always try to take out the boxes for a bit and try and put them together and pet them for a while to help. If they act stressed after a while give the hides back?

I’m struggling with 2 right now as well so I also…[Read more]

I hope they will approve it! I too have seen great results with rapid treating with meloxicam at the first signs of trouble. I think it’s especially good to have an extensive rabbit first aid kit on hand if you are in an area without exotics ER vets. Another good thing to inquire about is subcutaneous fluids. The vet can prescribe them and show…[Read more]

I agree with Azerane, weight loss with shedding is unusual so I think a visit to the vet is in order.

Please keep them separated. Baby bonds are not true bonds and at any point they could start to fight, not to mention that rabbits can get pregnant very early, I think 8-10 weeks, so they need to be kept apart for her health. Even when your boy is neutered, he can still get her pregnant up to six weeks after the surgery.

Bald spots can happen during shedding, sometimes from over grooming. But it is very normal to see those short patches of fur revealed as the other fur is brushed out.

The weight loss is unusual, my rabbits don’t lose weight when they shed,  especially not 16% of their bodyweight. I’d be getting her checked out by a bun savvy vet. I had the same…[Read more]

my boys seem to be spending more time in the hide boxes yesterday and todays session so far. Most alone in each box but sometimes together. Should I remove them so they interact more. The come out to eat and potty and that’s about it

Seems like the pulmicort is helping! I asked about the administration bc I use it in an inhaler and that could obviously not work for a bun 😄. (It comes in pills too, for microscopic colitis). Nebulizer sounds like a great option!

It does sound like the risk of her transmitting anything to another bun would be very low. I hope she can get a new…[Read more]

She’s also a flat faced bun (lionhead) so I think that’s also a contributing factor to why she got it so bad in the first place unfortunately 🙁

this morning I didn’t hear her sneeze once, and when giving her her morning snack she also didn’t make a sound! When I ALWAYS hear her make that honking sound since her problems started. So it’s su…[Read more]

    Thank you for the update!

I’m sorry she’s still having some trouble. I had a bun tht had chronic nssal “stuffiness”, probably related to the shape of his face (he had a very flat face). It didnt improve at all with antibiotics, but it didnt seem to affect him much. He had lots of binkying energy.

The pulmicort (budesonide) is interesting. How do…[Read more]
