It’s great that you have a check-up soon. Unfortunately, nothing comes to mind, but the fact that you’re noticing a significant change, in addition to increased soreness, I think the vet is the best option for assessment. It’s good to hear she is still behaving the same as usual.

I think exposure and habituation will be key. One of my rabbits gets anxious whenever things change, whether it be literally moving a chair to a different place or leaving our socks on the floor. I imagine there may be texture and/or scent differences with new wood pellets, so hopefully over time those novelties are less impactful.

A few things come to mind. First, just making sure that they are indeed healthy and well-recovered from the neuter. It is always a bit difficult to assess from a picture, it’s way better to feel the rabbit over. I think I see a dewlap tendency under his chin (although on the pics it’s spread out so it rests on his “shoulders”. If it is a dewlap you can feel it, it’s like a pouch with soft and squishy contents.

Rabbits can eat white willow, Salix alba. We have a big white willow in our yard, and all my buns have appreciated leaves and twigs from that tree. I had one rabbit who wouldn’t eat anything but leaves from that tree when he was poorly.

Start with a few leaves, of course -all new food should be introduced slowly and gradually.

If you don’t already, maybe try covering them with a layer of hay to make it softer for her feet. Plain wood pellets seem like they would be pretty uncomfortable to hop and step on.

They don’t look that bad to me. Like I said, they will sometimes get a bit of a hook on them. As long as they aren’t curving around in a circle to the point where they could grow into the skin, I think you’re OK. It is hard to cut those too. I usually have to do it by feel.

Since you’re talking about buns filling out, I was wonder what you think of Elmer? I found a picture from last year and didn’t realize how much he has filled out! You can find what they call botanical hay at different places. It’s usually a grass hay with some herbs or legumes mixed in. Most bunnies seem to like it.

Ear mites could come from contaminated bedding or hay, but I think that is less common. Factories don’t tend to be breeding grounds for ear mites. Mice, yes. Ear mites not so much because they need a host to survive. Depending on the temperature, they generally only last a few days off of a host.

She could be feeling the effects of hormonal changed caused by the spay. It seems boys will yo-yo more than girls, but that’s just what I’ve noticed on the forum. No idea if that is really true. I think as long as she is still eating and pooping well, it’s probably a bit premature to be concerned.
