Yes, I agree that it would be difficult to pinpoint the source of the infection. These things just happen. Unless, of course, she was in direct contact with another rabbit with a nasty ringworm infection. But I assume that is highly unlikely. Most fungal infections are “spontaneous” and can come about due to stress or a weakened immune system.

Thank you, I’ve been seeing that food floating around a lot!! I think I’ll try out the Science Selective rabbit food first and if I have an issues with that, I’ll try the Garden Select ^^

It sounds like Pi just got spooked or upset because Dorian was in his territory. Usually when a bunny is panicked like that it’s best to just leave them alone and try to remove whatever the stressor is. You can speak calming to them but often trying to catch or touch them freaks them out more. I’m sure he will calm back down soon!

Hmmmmmm, well it might make sense to just move all their stuff into the main room, and prevent them from going in there while they get set up in their new home base. I’m guessing they do just feel nice and safe in there?
Do they come out and explore during times of day when they are active? My buns will spend a lot of the day sleeping in their…[Read more]

Glad he likes it! There is nothing nicer than a bunny happily tucking into his hay 🙂

It could also be fur mites (different from ear mites). Fur mites can show up in that location sometimes. Same as with a fungal infection, they can flair up if a bun gets stresssed or has a weakened immune system.

Yes, my Masha used a litter box like that all her life, and we never had trouble. We just potty trained her how everyone does, and it worked. 😀

My rabbits have never had trouble. It’s less about the presence of litter and more the presence of a secure place (i.e. box with sides) and hay that will trigger a rabbit to poop and pee in a spot!

Do litterboxes with a grid on top that the bunny sits on work? Do bunnies use it even though they aren’t sitting directly on the litter like do they still know what it’s for?
Can someone who has one share if your bunny knew how to use it right away?

Hi all,
Still taking it slow, there’s progress. Sometimes I can get them to sit nose-to-nose, and while I was petting them both they were calm. I can also usually finish the date on a good note.
As mentioned, I have a fence between their areas, and it looks like they also behave a lot better over the fence. Dorian, the big guy, sometimes still…[Read more]

Hi!
I have a query about my rabbits’ behaviours, as I’d like to understand them better.
IÂ have 2 rabbits, Osiris and Shakira, and they have been free roaming for about 6 months. Two months ago, I upgraded to a larger apartment, and was really excited upon the move as I thought they would love all of the extra space. In the new place I have my…[Read more]

It could be the spay stressed her body (which is absolutely natural), so it created a window where a fungal infection could “stick”. Younger rabbits are more prone to fungal infections (if I recall my past research correctly when my Wick went through a fungal infection) since their immune systems are still developing. It’s impossible to figure out…[Read more]

Hi Wick,
Yes she was spayed right before she developed all of these symptoms.
She was spayed on May 4, and I brought her back to vet on the 6th because the ear symptoms developed.I really think it might be a fungal infection but have no clue how she would have caught that.
I hear back from the vet today.
Thank you for your help.
