Did I just order a custom wooden sign with this on it? Yes, yes I did. Even if they don’t bond (unlikely as they seem to be in love lol) it can go above both pens.

    Hi everyone,

Turns out Annie has a fungal infection (ringworm).

I have been treating her with with a spray, but it seems to be really irritating her.  After two days of spraying her (fallowing the correct use instructions) her ears are flaming red, and very warm to the touch.. and I can tell that she is in discomfort.

I tried to rinse her ears…[Read more]

Hmmmm, have there been any changes in your household or neighborhood? Maybe construction outside or a barking dog? I’ve also heard sad stories of neighbors using those rodent- deterrents that emit a high pitched sound causing distress to rabbits.

Based on his age, there’s a strong possibility that this is all hormonal in nature (the peeing etc.),…[Read more]

    Hey guys,

We have a newish bun, Leo, who used to love coming out of his playpen and explore. But the last few weeks, he lately has been terrified of every noise or movement when he is out exploring and playing. For example, the last few times when I let him out, I’ll sit or lay in the floor and he’ll come over, sometimes he lets me pet him, other…[Read more]

Thank you for the reassurance.  I am trying to do everything “right” but it all still feels wrong lol

So I’m happy to hear it’s not game over!

I agree with @DanaNM — rabbits who are not fixed cannot be truly bonded due to the hormonal aspects. And yes, the likelihood of pregnancy based on ages is very high.

So, uncastrated rabbits cannot be truly bonded. Hormones will take over and prevent them from bonding. Many of the behaviors you described are also hormonal in nature. If you would like your rabbits to live together, you need to them spayed/neutered, and then you can go through the bonding process.

It is also almost 100% certain that your female…[Read more]

It’s very normal to be stressed in bonding! And yes I think that’s a good plan, you definitely want to make sure both buns are healthy before starting the process.

It can be especially hard not to be protective or play favorites. I find it helps to try to be as impartial as possible, and try not to project who you think should be dominant or…[Read more]

Eating a lot of hay will make a bun thirsty, so that’s good. But the amount of urine you described does sound pretty high. I would measure the amount of water she’s drinking, that will give you a better idea as to whether it’s within the normal range.

DanaNM replied to the topic to bond or not to bond in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 3 months ago

In my experience vets don’t know a ton about bonding! I of course love having bonded bunnies, and I do think there are lots of benefits to the bun. But that’s not to say a bun can’t be happy alone.

Most pairings do work out, although some might be a slightly easier process than others. I’ve also found that a rabbit’s personality towards people is…[Read more]

You could get your male neutered ASAP, and then get her spayed once she’s done nursing?

If they haven’t all been placed in homes yet, plan to separate all babies from each other at 12 weeks. It’s very hard to properly sex young rabbits (as you’ve found out!), and they can become sexually mature at 12 weeks, so you definitely want to avoid another…[Read more]

Thank you for the second piece of advice today! My inclination as definitely to continue prebonding, more so now if I may be taking her to evaluate her excessive drinking. I wouldn’t want to begin bonding and then have it be immediately broken by a vet visit.

Despite the warnings, I think I underestimated how stressful bonding would be. I want…[Read more]

Thank you both! I’ve been in contact with folks at the rescue to see what they think. It is hard to know what’s normal or abnormal given that I’ve had her only a week. Her hay and food consumption is great…I mean she guzzles down her food and water. She’s not overweight but she’s structurally a medium sized bunny. She has no issue chewing on…[Read more]

How is her hay consumption? Excessive drinking and peeing can be due to dental issues…  I had a rabbit with molar issues who drank tons of water, presumably to soothe his painful mouth.

I do think another vet exam is a good idea to check kidneys and teeth especially. Since she’s a recent adoption definitely talk to the rescue about it.

I don’t see any harm in doing some more prebonding, esp since you’re a bit unsure as to if their ready. In my experience they are ready to start sessions when they don’t react a lot to each other, or react positively (such as laying near each other). They usually are frustrated at first and then they start to accept things. They also usually start…[Read more]

Don’t fret, all hope is not lost! These things can happen, it’s amazing how high bunnies can jump when there is another bunny in their territory! And fighting in non-neutral space doesn’t mean they will fight in neutral.

I would prob do a couple more weeks of pre-bonding just to let things calm down.  Then when you introduce them in neutra…[Read more]

I definitely agree with neutering if you haven’t already. That said, my 5 year old bunny is litter trained and was neutered for well over 4 years. For some unknown reason he also loves to pee outside of his litter box occasionally. While most of the time he uses the litter, he will do what I call a spite pee. if I’m not paying him the amount of…[Read more]

Excessive drinking and peeing can have many causes, but it’s always an observandum and should be investigated by a vet.

Rabbits that eat mainly dry food will drink more than rabbits that eat fresh greens.

A good start is to try and measure her water consumption per 24 hours.

    Hi everyone (or everbun)!

I just got a medium sized bunny to bond my with my lionhead (if anyone knows what breed/mix she is let me know!) and I have a question about water intake. This girl drinks a TON of water. Like so much that I had to get a water dispenser to keep her bowl full. My lionhead has never been a huge water drinker so I have to…[Read more]
