Hi! I have a netherland dwarf rabbit named Kokoa. I think he’s around 1,5 years old now. I was wondering if you guys know why he keeps peeing and pooing outside his litterbox these days, he used to be a well behaved boy but I think around a month and half ago there was rats inside my house and he started to pee everywhere..  and I think the rats are gone now but he keeps that behavior until now (and it gets worse, he pee and poo outside his litterbox around 3x a day now. Is it a hormonal change or do I just have to buy him another litter box to pee and poo? (He pee in the corner only). Or do I have to get him fixed? But there’s no exotic vets near me so that’s kind of a problem 🙁

Neutering is my top suggestion… sometimes vets aren’t necessarily advertised as exotics vets but do have vets that are experienced with rabbits. But since things were pretty good before, maybe you just need to clean really really well to try to get rid of any lingering smells? Spring time can also cause more hormonal behaviors. Adding extra litter boxes can help if he tends to mark a specific area, you could just add a box in that area.

I definitely agree with neutering if you haven’t already. That said, my 5 year old bunny is litter trained and was neutered for well over 4 years. For some unknown reason he also loves to pee outside of his litter box occasionally. While most of the time he uses the litter, he will do what I call a spite pee. if I’m not paying him the amount of attention he feels is adequate, he will give me a death stare and pee right by his litter. He knows how to use his litter, and if I tell him “tushy all the way in please” he’ll go in his litter. It’s just a weird thing he does and I’m kinda just like 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’ve recently purchased reusable pee pads and stuck them where he pees. Best decision I ever made!
