It can take up to 2 weeks to see improvement but what you’re describing doesn’t sound good. You mentioned not drinking but is she eating? If not give her a small amount of pellets and if she is willing to eat those and not hay then you’ll need to wean her off the pellets slowly. Thank you Bam. I cleaned his nose tonight with towel and it seemed like could be wiped off. The towel was all yellowish and poop color just like wiped someone’s bottom😅 So could it just be cecotropes? He has had ton of cecotropes left before and he just has started to eat his cecotropes lately after adjusting the diet.

Yay, that’s golden that he’s starting to eat more hay! I’ve heard buns like orchard grass hay more because it’s sweeter ♥

We have a local horse stable, and we get our orchard hay cheap by the bale. It’s so much more affordable than buying pet store hay, plus it’s less dustier and much greener. Lol, the stuff they were selling at the pet store…[Read more]

American Sable buns’ fur also changes color as they mature ♥

When my bun was a baby her fur was dark grey, but when she grew older her fur turned chocolate brown, and she got black ears and paws.

Update: We’re on day 2 of an all-hay diet, and things are not looking good. This morning the floor of Binkie’s pen was all covered with cecotrope smudges again, and worse than before. Try and wipe it with a compress with lukewarm water. Do the best you can, gently pat dry the nose and observe to see if the stickiness goes away over these next few days. Obviously if you see snot or crustiness around the nostrils or observe frequent sneezing etc, it’s time to see a vet. A bunny cold is highly treatable with antibiotics.

Just use warm water to clean? I’m not sure… it looks like the hair are glued together, I feel it is very hard to clean no matter what it is. And I’ve never seen him sneezing. Some people also mentioned pasturella but I don’t understand how he can get this. They are just stay at home and no other animals in my house.

Hmm… interesting that it is on top of the nose. You would expect it to be under the nose… and then maybe some on top of the nose simply from wiping.

Could he have sniffed something sticky? Perhaps you could clean it off and then wait to see if it reappears.

I saw that, but I wasn’t sure if it was a wrinkle in the skin or a bump under the skin (like an abscess). There also appear to be some drooping of the eye, so then I thought maybe facial paralysis could be at play. I’m hoping the OP clarifies what we’re supposed to be looking at.

It looks like dry skin that stuck to a fur clump that was falling out. Is he shedding at all? Some bunnies will get dry skin when they molt heavily.

“Low grade” URIs can persist for a very long time. I would not assume that he doesn’t have one, even when his symptoms have not progressed very much.

Oh wow that is lucky Bam! I have to search hard every time I need new farm hay to find something good that isn’t too far!
