DanaNM replied to the topic Together for over 3 weeks but not bonded – help! in the forum BONDING 5 years, 1 month ago

Hmmmm, I was having a similar issue when I bonded Bertha and Bun Jovi. The would be fine for almost all of a 24 hr period, then around dawn scuffling would happen. In my case it was usually due to a mounting attempt. Have you been able to see if anything specific initiates the chasing?

Also, what is the main type of space are you using, and is it…[Read more]

Welcome to BB! Your post is great, thanks for checking out the rules! 🙂

I’ve had a few senior buns, including a 12 year old currently (Bun Jovi). I think it’s good that you are going to have him on some pain medication. How long as he been on the pain meds? Do they seem to help him at all? If you don’t notice any improvement he might need a…[Read more]

So make sure she is healthy. A healthy wild cottontail should not be acting that way. But if you observe her growing and otherwise healthy, while still wanting to bond with you, maybe you are the bunny whisperer. 🙂

This is not normal at all for a wild cottontail to be super attached to a human. As soon as their eyes are open and they are able to run, they normally will be hypervigilant and trying to get away. It can go from one extreme (them being super passive and burrowing) to running away within a day or two.

Hello all. I just wanted to update on my lil cottontail rescue. She is still healthy and thriving. She’s an estimated few days shy of being a year old. As I watch the Cottontails in my neighborhood do their thing, it makes me sad that her little life isn’t what it was meant to be. I would turn her over her in a minute to a cottontail sanctuary,…[Read more]

Hi, just an update! We just got word that she has ear infections in both ears :0( she also has points beginning to form on her teeth so we will get that fixed and make her eat more hay. Thank you guys so much for the input!

Bam is correct. Very young bunnies are going to take comfort in their siblings and that feeling of being in a nest. Some rehabbers will put young bunnies with other young bunnies (if possible) for this reason. So it makes sense that this bunny is acting this way. Her siblings are gone, so she is seeking that feeling of security elsewhere. At this…[Read more]

Baby buns are “programmed” to be very close to their siblings in the nest even if they are weaned as early as 3-4 weeks of age. So it makes sense this bun wants to be near you. I don’t think it’s harmful for her/him. In general, baby buns do appreciate being held and cuddled, it’s when they hit puberty they start to find it (very!) stressful to be…[Read more]

I rescued a wild cottontail rabbit about a week ago. I’m positive that the mother isn’t around because I used the floss tip by making an X across the nest and also moved one of my security camera that has a motion detector so I could make sure the mom came back and that my dogs didn’t disturb the nest (I gated it off, but still wasn’t to assure…[Read more]

I recently got a foldable soft crate for my two since Fresno is giant and regular carriers don’t cut it lol. It’s sturdy but still soft, tall enough for them to stretch upwards, it opens from the front and side, and it has like 3 pouches that you can put things in and a slot for an ID card. I could even fit a small litter box in there if I wan…[Read more]

Yeah, she’s been eating probably more pellets than she should. I don’t think its a new food issue because shes been eating it for about a month. We just dropped her off so hopefully we get word in a few hours. I’ll cut back on the pellets and urge her to eat more hay.

It can be that one rabbit gets particularly energized for the first meal of the day and that energy gets re-directed to your other rabbit. If it becomes a huge issue and causes fights each morning, I would consider maybe getting a timed feeder for the morning or finding a way to separate them for that small period in the morning, whether that is a…[Read more]

When you say not healing, what are the signs you are expecting and how do they look currently? Also, is your vet exotic and rabbit-experienced?

  • Profile picture of Wick & Fable

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Gas or stasis? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 2 months ago

My understanding (I am not a vet) is that gas can lead to stasis. Stasis is a state of being for a rabbit’s GI tract, so rather than the question being gas or stasis, it’s more so evaluating whether you should wait it out or go to the vet immediately. It looks like you have an appointment scheduled, and hopefully there’s good news from it.

    Yes,…[Read more]

Gotcha — like I said I’m just a fellow bunny parent so obvi follow your vets advice!

Poor baby. When did she eat last? If the last time she ate was last night then you really should give your homemade CC.  You have to keep her going until your vet appointment or see if you can get in sooner….12 hours is definitely emergency territory.
