Wick & Fable replied to the topic Bunny STILL not healing from debridement surgery in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 1 month ago
It’s good to hear that some wounds are clearly trying to heal– that means the mechanisms are working. Especially with larger wounds, I imagine long healing times are not unexpected. I’m sure it is frustrating, but if all else is fine, I do not see a reason why it wouldn’t heal eventually with good care.

As a note, binkying is not always an expression of positive affect. It can also be an extra evasion tactic as well, so binkying during a chase is not necessarily indicative of enjoyment or play.

Ah yes I read your whole bonding saga (Elmer is an easy name to remember)! Question for you (or anyone), when you started marathon bonding was that in the same room you had their side-by-side pens in? Or a completely different space?

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Sore hocks? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 1 month ago
Vinyl flooring could definitely irritate hocks of rabbits prone to sore hocks or starting to get there. I would recommend making sure there is nice traction wherever she is, and in areas she spends a good amount of time, try to add some nice material cushion, as suggested by others.
I have a Netherland Dwarf who unfortunately developed early…[Read more]

I would definitely take your rabbit to a rabbit-experienced vet, which should be an exotic vet (not a traditional dog/cat vet). If I’m perceiving the image correctly, it looks like there is a growth/significant swelling protruding out of the nose, which is not good. Rabbits are obligate nasal breathers, meaning they must breath through their nose.…[Read more]

Here is Dorian’s little set up. Technically I just have a small storage area and this is mainly my neighbors space, but luckily they had no objections to him camping out as long as they were able to access there washer/dryer. Hoping for a temporary set up it’s big enough.

Hi, I’m not an expert but to me it all sounds great with your buns. Also wanted to say my Elmer is kind of a brat too and is very persistent in trying to get grooms from Ruby. He shoves his self under her aggressively! He has done a little few step chase with a half hearted nip if he is not ready for her to be done. This is after a year together,…[Read more]

@pinkiemarie – he seems to be happy as long as we hang out with him, which honestly is a little awkward. He has been eating, pooping and flopping and even did a mini-binky. He also seems to have done okay spending the night there. It’s going to be even hotter today, so glad he has some where safe to be. Hoping he can put up with the limited space…[Read more]

Thanks All. It seems to have healed quite a bit over night. There is only a dull pink color left and it is smaller in size. If things begin heading in the other direction we’ll bring her in.
We did put blankets under her padding in her x-pen and we have some rug pads on the way to put under them more permanently.
We had been letting her ou…[Read more]

Thank you, Kanin, and I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Bam. He truly did live a good, long life with the tender care you gave to him all those years. Bunnies are so fragile and they hide their hurt. It is obvious that you were quite attentive to realize when Bam was ready for peace. Quality of life is MAJOR. None of us want to suff…[Read more]

Oh, I am so, so very sorry for your loss. The pain is almost unbearable — I know. The mornings for me are very hard without her. I am sure — just by the questioning of yourself — that you did all you could for your baby with the knowledge that you had in hand. We are not veterinarians. I have just completed a prayer to our Father to give…[Read more]

update: this weekend we did 5 hrs on Saturday and 6 hrs on Sunday in a new space (usually ended around 7pm both days). Pretty much everything still the same: sharing food, water, litter box, and toys, as well as binkying, sleeping, and sprawling out. Wolfie will groom her without issue but Little miss is still a brat and gets upset when he stops…[Read more]

Yeah I would probably keep him there as long as the stress isn’t stopping him from eating!

If the skin is broken, booking a vet visit is not overreacting. As SweetPotato says, better safe than sorry.
Callused hocks are however very, very common in rex rabbits. Memory foam bath mats in the bunny enclosure often work well. Many types of carpeting are more abrasive to bunny feet than to human feet, especially if the bun does zoomies and…[Read more]
