CooperVT started the topic Line over nose – what is it? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 1 month ago

Cooper has a line over his nose. It feels like a little ridge or indent. Doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He’s molting but I’m a paranoid bun mom and now don’t know if it’s because he’s molting… or if I should make an appointment. I’ve noticed it slightly before but not like this. Like I said, he’s shedding A LOT. -

Hmm… I wonder if the antibiotic killed a bunch of bacteria off and all the build up decided to come out. Maybe more is loosened, but still in there. The nebulizer should help with that as well.

I would honestly make the hard switch 100%. Rabbits are selective foragers so they will only eat the best bits— as long as there’s enough alfalfa to sustain him, he’ll probably only eat that, as you’ve observed.

Hi, my rabbit Sawyer is currently 8 months old and for the past month, I’ve been trying to ween him off alfalfa hay with no success. Even when I put in a few strands of the Timothy hay, he eats around it for the alfalfa hay. I have even bought orchard meadow hay thinking he just doesn’t like the alfalfa hay and still no luck. I know he should be…[Read more]

No, but he is kind of honking, because of the congestion. I am still nebulizing him twice a day. Such a downer…

Thanks. Much easier than describing the layout in text, haha.
I don’t think there’s enough distance to make a ramp with a low enough grade that wouldn’t be an issue. I think the vet is concerned with any significant pressure at this point, so whether that’s jumping down from a step or walking down a slope– both likely would be better to…[Read more]

Yes, it’s hard to tell when it is dried… but that does look like some kind of mallow to me as well.

I love the drawing!
Hmm… could you take down the upper panels and use them to make a maze-like area? Steps aren’t safe… what about an enclosed ramp (i.e. so he can’t possibly fall off)?

Has he sneezed since? Perhaps a big glob of stuff came loose and he was getting it out.

I honestly never noticed that one until you and SweetPotato pointed it out! I was looking at the white splotch more closely towards the center of the picture, it looks like a white lop to me.

Wick and Dana,
Thank you both for your suggestions! I immediately bought some nose guard grids and set their cages up right by each other and so far they haven’t seem to hurt each other as a result (today is the first day).
It’s difficult to gauge their reactions to each other. It seems like O (the main aggressor) is hyper aware of eve…[Read more]

In short: Wick broke his middle finger >> it healed >> he injured another finger because it started bearing more weight since the middle finger no longer touches the floor >> that finger is pretty much healed, but not yet cleared.
To best ensure he doesn’t damage things again (he’s only got so many fingers!), he will be in a restricted pen for at…[Read more]

Thank you for your concern.
He seems to be doing better. He’s still isn’t back to 100% but he’s at least heading that direction. Today’s the last day of medications so we will see how he does off them. He only had enough pain medicine for a half dose this morning and I’ve reduced the Metoclopramide to once a day (figure weaning him off it to make…[Read more]

Thanks so much 💜 She was just so sweet, and you’re right that deep bonding happens with seniors. Her and I were so close after all the years and some health scares, and it was really special for sure.

Going 5 days without symptoms is a great sign. Recovery is rarely a clean, straight trajectory. If you notice things getting progressively worse, then I’d be more concern.
