I’ve been doing it once every 2 months. But it really depends on the bunny, how quickly their nails grow, and how much they are worn down naturally.

I’ve found that when the nail starts to extend out of the fur of their feet is when they need to be clipped. Of course, if your rabbit’s quick extends that far into the nail, wait! And if you have a long haired or very short haired rabbit, this guideline might not work. Additionally, if your bunny is a Rex, their nails will start to curl faster…[Read more]

Oh yes, their hormones can definitely get a boost from winter becoming spring. As Dana said, it can affect spayed/neutered rabbits too. It usually isn’t as pronounced though as with an intact individual. The risk of cancer does vary a little bit between breeds, but the risk goes up regardless as a bunny ages. The only prevention is removing the…[Read more]

Thanks, DanaNM! It appears I better start saving. I had no idea the statistics were that high! Glad she’s just turned 3, I’ve got some time.

Unfortunately there is no other way to prevent reproductive cancers other than spaying. Rates are thought to vary slightly by breed, but not by very much. The studies I’ve read found rates between 50-75% by age 4, and then the rates just go up with age. It seems like most rabbits will get it by age 6-7 if un-spayed. When I volunteered at a rescue…[Read more]

Hmmm. So I guess its from hormones then. It’s normal for an un-spayed female rabbit of any age, right? Nothing to be concerned about?
And I understand the risks of not spaying her, but it’s impossible for me to finance it. 🙁
Is reproductive cancer otherwise avoidable? Do you know if there are rabbit breeds that are particularly susceptible to…[Read more]

that’s right, you can put the hay they will eat in a pile in the litter box, or you can also add a hay rack or bag as well. I recently had to get rid of all my hay racks because of my buns got his head stuck in one 😯
I have yet to find a replacement that I think will be safe for him (he just has a tendency to get into EVERYTHING) so for now I…[Read more]

LOL every 2 weeks seems like way too much, but once a year is DEFINITELY not enough. I clip mine about every 4-5 weeks. Their nails def do grow at different rates, and even within a rabbit some of their nails are always a bit longer or shorter depending on how their foot hits the ground.
If you hold a flashlight to the nail it will let you see…[Read more]

She was getting a 34kg dog dose 2x a day but they forgot to put the syringe (that has the kg measurement) back in the box when they discharged her. I was able to get in contact with her vet though and they were able to tell me what this equates to in ml on a normal syringe so I could give her her medicine as normal.
poor girl is on a concoction…[Read more]

Hi again!
Great that yiu found the wifi password!
It’s not really possible to say how often a bun’s nail should be clipped, because it depends on the bun and the bun’s daily activities. Free roam buns tend to need less frequent nail clipping than buns that live in small-ish enclosures – obviously running around a lot wears the nails. Younger…[Read more]

Whoo-hoo! I am back for the time being. I moved in with my birth mom and my dad’s brother gave her his old wireless internet thingy. And he never told me the password. My mom told it to me but she got it wrong. I found it written down on a piece of paper that she forgot about and now I can use the internet! Well that’s enough of that story. How…[Read more]

I would say no, not annoyed. Probably just super excited. My bunny will sometimes do a little thump and then zoom. It’s just him being super excited. For your bunny though, a lot of this excitement is likely being caused by hormones. Circling and honking are courtship behaviors. Are you planning on getting her spayed? Spaying is very important for…[Read more]

Have they been getting critical care or other supplement? Feeding critical care tends to lower their water intake because they are getting liquid from the critical care.

I use a BB litter screen because someone likes to dig in the litter box. This one is metal, but it sits directly on top of the litter. Then I put hay on top. Yes, bunnies will much on this hay and you don’t necessarily need a rack. I like to have a hay rack above the litter box, just to help keep things a little more tidy.

Thanks for the reply, Dana! 🙂 I’ll definitely take the advice and try that. I do plan to get her spayed, but unfortunately, I think it’ll be a while until I can since she’s only a little over 8 weeks old right now. Hopefully this new set up will help out more.
When you put hay in the litterbox, is this the hay they will be eating? I won’t need a…[Read more]

What was she getting before?
I’m glad to hear she is doing better. I’m sure it’s a relief to have her home now.

No, she has not been spayed. Unfortunately that’s not an option for me.
That makes sense, thanks LBJ10! I guess she was just super excited to see me! (phew, not annoyed)
