joy started the topic administering ear drops for bunny in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 1 month ago
Hey guys, I’m at my wits end 😕 my bunny absolutely hates being picked up so it’s impossible to administer ear drops without him running away and us having to chase after him for 30 minutes before managing to get a squirt in. And he shakes his ears so hard after the medication. How do I make sure the ear drops actually goes in and any sug…[Read more]

Hi LBJ10. At the top of my original post there is link that’s says IMG_6339
If you click it, hopefully a short video will load? I attempted to upload it earlier but admittedly am not that savvy. Any guidance is so appreciated. 🙏🏻

Update:
Emergency vet said in order to diagnose he would have to run a lot of tests that we -quite frankly- don’t have the money for at the moment. He couldn’t even give his best guess.
I asked about what you guys suggested and he said they didn’t have the tools to look at his molars or anything aside from incisors but that what he could see…[Read more]

Agree with Wick 100%.
Babies get along with anyone and anything. They aren’t bonded right now, they simply lack the hatred adult rabbits have for other rabbits they aren’t bonded to.
Separating them isn’t optional unfortunately, if you don’t you will end up with a pregnant baby bunny. At best you’ll have a litter to take care of, at worst she…[Read more]

Thank you all for the replies.
My partner and I didn’t wanna take the risk with Gus and headed out straight away to the emergency vet near us. We are currently waiting in our car to have him seen by a doctor but the nurse said his vitals were stable.
We have fed him a bit of critical care and he seems to be perking up just a bit while we…[Read more]

Sorry for the misunderstanding, when I said “veggies” that was inclusive of leafy greens (basically any fresh foods).
And Wick is correct, I think the benefit from alfalfa would come from the additional protein as it’s a legume rather than a grass.

I believe it’s the increase in protein from alfalfa hay that’s linked to some benefit for megacolon rabbits.

The “poop shake” was some cecotropes (ideally) or regular poops mixed up in critical care and given to the poorly bun. In general you would want to be careful with this because the poops from the other bun could contain pathogens, but my vet said if the buns are already living in the same house they would have already been exposed to the same…[Read more]

Do try Dana’s suggestion! Simethicone baby gas drops are readily available (baby aisle at Walmart or similar) and inexpensive -plus they’re harmless, because they’re not taken up by the body. They just act locally in the GI tract and comes out with the poop
Uou give 1 ml every hour for 3 hours then 0.5 every two hours. If it hasnt helped by s…[Read more]

Snuggling during a nap is a very good sign 🙂
You might try a small bit of banana on Louie’s head again (or on both of their heads). I’ve noticed it helps more when you are in the final stages than in the very beginning.

There are so many parallels between Milo and Fable! Fable was not a great groomer — she groomed very aggressively and Wick more so “braced” for it. She too came from a hoarding situation housed with other rabbits, so unsure if there’s some sort of fixation because of that type of hx. Fable too will always choose to sleep/lounge next to the pen by…[Read more]

It also sounds like it could be a bout of gas? The flopping and getting up again right away can sometimes be a gas symptom. Can you try a tummy rub and some simethicone to see if he snaps out of it?

The first things that comes to mind are dental problems or an ear infection. Is Gus a lop?
Pretty much all bun ailments will eventually manifest in nappetence. Inappetence in a bun is always an observandum.
