Have you tried handplucking off tufts/areas that have released when she is close to her bondmate? You can sometimes get a significant amount while they are occupied eating veggies or pellets.

my one bun hates being brushed or pet. She is molting and I’m not sure how to get the excess hair off. I’ve tired several brushes and wetting my hands or a paper towel but she just hates it. She also doesn’t really like to be pet so I try not to force interactions on her but her hair is everywhere and I’ve read they can get statis from it. She is…[Read more]

If it goes “backwards”, it will likely be more because of the bonding process– not swapping the boxes. Litterbox behavior is something that can be polished in the future as well, so I wouldn’t let concerns about it prevent you from doing swaps as a pre-bonding measure. Most likely, it won’t impact anything litter habit wise, as long as they are…[Read more]

I am bonding them currently, but switching there litter boxes or them into each other cages would help. My rabbit who was already 100% litter box trained is still 100% litter trained, and my rabbit who is 90% litter trained I am currently litter box training but it is going well so I don’t want it to go backwards.

I let my rabbits free roam when someone is home so they can be checked on regularly. I have noticed that they get very curious about things they know they aren’t really supposed to do when they think nobody is watching. They’re basically 2 year olds/toddlers so you always have to keep that in mind. I have a nice big 2 story condo with a big dog…[Read more]

GI stasis typically cause a bun to have a lower than normal temp -which is dangerous. Rabbits that are stressed-f ex by a vet visit, which is always somewhat stressful for a rabbit – can cause somewhat elevated temperature. How hot or cold the ears feel is not a reliable way of determining the bun’s core temperature. I would think your vet took…[Read more]

That is good to hear! I was worried but sounds like she is getting better so glad to know that too. The others can speak more to the GI Stasis – I am not sure if that would make her ears hot.

Great thank you, Dana. Your help has been invaluable throughout this entire process! yesterday and today I started clapping loudly and saying “no” to discourage any issues when I head them start running around. It tends to get her to snap out of whatever crazy is going through her head. This morning I let them out at 530 when they woke up (lo…[Read more]

It’s normal! Just groom as often as possible to help get all the fur off.

Honestly sometimes there are little tiffs, especially in new bonds. Sometimes hidey houses can trigger some tiffs in the beginning.

Not penning them at night may be worth a shot (but then still pen them during the middle of the day so they are encouraged to snuggle a bit).

I think you are seeing signs of slow and steady progress (some cuddling and a little grooming).

I of course can’t say 100% that they will be OK, but I’m wondering if the week at the rescue would actually be really good for their bond (being in an unfamiliar place together)?

I think they are starting to sound more like Bonnie and Cooper (who’s…[Read more]

Litter box habits often go out the window when bonding, whether you use the same litter boxes  or swap or not. But once they are bonded they will return, so don’t worry. 🙂

Glad she’s feeling a bit better! You should syringe feed as long as she isn’t eating normally. It can take several weeks for a bun to recover from stasis, it’s been called “like jump starting a train”, so don’t worry if it takes several days. Pooping is great!

Same! My bunny is shedding and it’s been going on for over a week. Is this normal?

Yes you remember! But it finally cooled down a lot. She is enjoying the cold breeze that is outside now.

Could she have a higher body temperature from GI stasis? The day before she had quite hot ears and it wasn’t hot outside

Yes She has medications too. And she feels better. There are some small poops so I’m very happy.

But she is still not eating on her own. Will it also take more time? I read somewhere you shouldn’t syringe feed more than 5-7 days. Is it true?

I know that you are supposed to switch the bunny’s or bunny’s litter boxes when satiating to bond them, but I don’t want it to mess up their litter habits. One of my rabbits is perfectly litter trained, and the other is 90 %. The litter boxes are very different sizes too.
