People selectively breed those nicer qualities into the lop breeds so it could be that his genetic line is actually successful.

However, due to the fact that he’s only 5 months old and you didn’t mention if he’s neutered or not, I’m hazarding a guess at pre-adult lack of hormones. The main reason bunnies are the third most abandoned pet in…[Read more]

Thank you for your compassion.  Yes, I have contacted the vet.  I am waiting for a response to my email to the Dr. himself.  Bonny went in for her regular 3-4 mo. trim.  Based on a summary I received from the vet from another request I sent three weeks ago, I don’t believe the Dr. even saw her yet.  Here is the text of what i received from my firs…[Read more]

I am so sorry to hear this.  May you find inner peace and comfort knowing that your beloved fur baby is now in the arms of our creator, safe from any physical suffering.

Have tried contacting your vet and ask why they had to use a level III sedation?

I am so distraught and have to share some very disturbing information about the loss of my sweet, innocent Bonny.  This is the only place I know that I can go to where others will understand what occurred.

First, when I inquired with our vet as to what happened that they lost her, he told us (and in writing, per my request) that she was sedated…[Read more]

Yep, pine pellets are great. If you can’t find those, compressed paper pellets (e.g. Yesterday’s News) are good too. The pellets break down when they get wet and those wet areas can be scooped if desired.

Can you offer a bun sized piece of granite or something similar for him to lay on?  That can be cooling.

Perhaps check temp on the grass, in the shade, that should give you a good idea of the temps he’s really getting.

You say the yard is enclosed…does that include the top?  I’d worry about hawks!

Hi! I have a very destructive rabbit who has a very gentle sister. Toys that will last the sister a few weeks will be demolished in 24 hours. They are currently living separately for bonding and I’m switching their toys every day. I bought them a willow ball and the sister didn’t even get a chance to see it, it was diminished to curvy sticks by…[Read more]

Oooh I know this pattern well. It is so frustrating! I went through something really similar with Bun Jovi and Bertha. All good during the day and first part of the evening, then every night around 4 or 5 am a fight would break out. This went on for like 5 days and then I decided to reassess.

I think these things happen because bunnies are…[Read more]

Thank you! I tossed them. The box was pretty small, and we already have a bunch of hidey boxes and hay rack 😆  I just want to give them more variety where I can but agree the shavings aren’t worth the risk. They love the dig box with tissue paper, I think I’m going to replace it, and maybe cut a hole like in the middle of the box, so they…[Read more]

    Update: Tuesday.

So I bought puppy pads and tried them out with a pile of hay. They got along perfectly (no nips, grumbles, circles, etc) all day from 10 am to midnight when I laid down next to them.  There were some groomies and snuggles but not a ton, they seemed bonded until all the lights went off. Later I may have caught a small fight they…[Read more]

Hi Dana, thanks a lot for your reply.

I got an appointment with an exotic animal vet, hoping for deeper insights this time.

As for the restriction, I didn’t strictly enforce that, because my bunny becomes really sad when he is not allowed to go out. So I kept him in his playpen half of the time, but also let him come out every day.

    Hi Wick, thanks again.

Yes, I live in the US. I found a vet in my area on the HRS website and scheduled an appointment (They are so kind to add me to their fully-booked schedule).

I phoned my former clinic for the x-ray email, they said they would send ASAP.

Taking my bunny to the new vet tomorrow, will update after that.
