I agree to a vet visit. While it seems clear that there is no immediate, imminent danger, since rabbits are obligate nose-breathers (i.e. they only breath through the nose; not mouth), any potential obstruction/condition that may worsen and block nasal breathing is serious. Make sure you see a rabbit-experienced exotic vet: rabbit.org/vet-listings…[Read more]

I am building my rabbits cage as their own bedroom. I was going to make it mountion/grassland theme but the only green carpet I could find wasn’t safe for them. I was looking for a rabbit couch but I could only find fleece ones which my bunnies would tear up. Anyone know anywhere that has them? Or something that might go with the theme?

I think if you have a good feeling about it and have the time, then you could go for it. 🙂 I would just have lots of back-up plans (housing, etc) ready to go in case you decide to change strategy once you start.
If you notice things are WAY different at home than during these initial dates, then my suspicion would be that your bonding space at…[Read more]

Hmmm, does it seem to get worse when he exercises?
Without hearing it I can’t really say, but it might be worth a vet visit to make sure he doesn’t have a respiratory infection.

I do think that bunnies feel safer when they have a “home base”, such as a pen, cage, or condo, even if it’s left open all the time. That way they feel like they have a safe spot to retreat to if they feel threatened.
So I think I would keep a pen around his corner, as you had, even if you choose to leave it open all the time. Then you can get a…[Read more]

It sounds like you let him roam without a cage all day. Which is great if that is what you are doing. I would put a home base up for him and keep the door open so he could come out when he feels like it. If I misunderstood what you wrote I am sorry.

I too agree. And since is an adult, she will do fine on hay and pellets while you try to cut out vegs -provided she actually eats her hay.
You do the same thing with humans and dogs when you suspect there might be some component in the diet that doesnt agree with the human or dog. Its slow work, but you cant rush it.
Tapering down the motility…[Read more]

So I got my bun 1,5 weeks ago, he’s 10 weeks old and acclimated well to my apartment. He’s been social with me licking my nose and forehead, lots of binkies, zooming etc. Sure he has been spooked sometimes when I enter the room and he is not used to being pet or hold. But even there I have been able to give him a couple of pets on his forehead whe…[Read more]

Wick makes some good points. There could be something in her diet that is triggering these episodes, especially if other causes have been ruled out.

My bun winston has a little nose whistle when he breathes, you can only hear it when you put your ear right next to him. He also sometimes makes a noise that i’m not sure if he’s honking or if he’s sneezing? Is this something to be concerned about ? Everything else about him is fine, he’s playing, eating, sleeping and etc !

Those are all rabbit-safe, as you know, so it may be worth eliminating things to see if that makes improvements. Again, some rabbits just develop sensitivities. For example, my Fable has had much healthier poops as less “gurgle” when I switched her from Oxbow to Science Selective. At the same time, my Wick does completely fine on Oxbow.
I would…[Read more]

6yo is not an older-age where we get concerned about health in this regard. She is going through a lot of gastric distress, so the cause must be identified to resolve it properly or you and her will be on an ongoing battle of just fighting the symptoms. Can you describe her diet? As I mentioned, it may be worth doing some elimination/transitioning…[Read more]

Woke up and she still hasn’t eaten her food. Stomach is extra squishy I just don’t get what’s going on. Could it be she’s just getting old? She’s only 6 and spayed. Gave her more baby gas drops hope it helps.
