Yes, it is possible to develop new allergies. This is especially true if you are exposed to the allergen more. I developed a rabbit allergy. And no, I’m not allergic to grasses at all. As Bam suggested though, it doesn’t hurt to try switching up hays to see if that helps. When someone is allergic to hay, Timothy seems to be a common culprit.

Hi everyone!
So my friend here has this completely adorable male baby lionhead, and she’s looking for a home to give him to. Here comes the part where I think that I’m crazy – I’m actually considering adopting this bunny, when I already have a trio that took a long time to finally bond. I was hoping that by making this post, someone more…[Read more]

Hey,
I’ve had my bunnies for about 3-4 months now. You guys have all given me great advice that’s helped me so much with my bunnies. My bunnies have recently started mounting and I got some advice to seperate them before it causes fights, I feel kinda bad for seperating them but I know that it will be good once they are spayed and can meet…[Read more]

It was cemented for about 19 hours. I don’t want to take them on a car ride because I don’t want to do stress bonding, and Ollie is terrified of car rides.( he shakes, won’t eat or drink, just isn’t himself)

Allergies can develop at any time in a person’s life. It’s not possible to say if your dad reacts to the rabbit or the hay, but you could try switching type of hay. Many people (including myself) are sensitive to timothy hay.
I use a mix of wood stove pellets and paper pellets in my bun’s litterbox. I find wood stove pellets to be better at…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic dutch rabbit growing white fur after shedding in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 11 months ago
Scattered white fur is not uncommon, especially in rabbits with white fur. To my knowledge, it is not linked to any concerning medical conditions, aside from simple fur genetics.

Hi, I have a dutch rabbit who’s approximately 3 and a half years old. He started shedding a few weeks ago, and he’s growing white strands of fur in places which were originally completely black. Is this kind of like how humans’ hair can turn grey/white when they get older, or is this some sign of a health condition? Thank you!

So I’ve been fostering bunnies for over a year now and always keep them in a room in the basement my dad stays in often. I’ve fostered about 4 bunnies – the longest being for 4 months, and the shortest being 2 weeks with 2 angora rabbits. I took about a half year break in 2021 and have now been fostering a new bun for the past 2 months. This bu…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic How do you get a rabbit to eat vegetables (and fruit)? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 11 months ago
Yeah… it takes some bunnies awhile to realize veggies are edible. LOL I agree with simply continuing to present them to see if she will eventually decide to try a little. However, it isn’t absolutely critical for her to eat them on a regular basis, so don’t stress too much over it.

This is the way I’ve done it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x9dbSUdomg&ab_channel=Howcast
But I’ve only had to do it a handful of times with my buns, they’ve usually done a pretty good job keeping them clean themselves.

I agree that they aren’t necessary (especially fruits, which I rarely feed mine). BUT, if you’d like to encourage some veggie eating, it is best to just keep offering them. If she sees the other bun eating them that might also convince her to take a nibble.
Really fragrant herbs like cilantro and parsley tend to be good for enticing a bun to try them too.

How do you suggest cleaning my bun’s anal glands with minimal stress and grudges? 🙁

Fruits aren’t important, they’re actually treats and they’re unnecessary if you’re bun dislikes them. I suggest cutting back to less than a fourth a cup or possibly an eighth of a cup of pellets so she’ll be more hungry for her pellets and veggies. But as long as she’s not gorging on pellets, is eating lots of hay, and her weight is staying…[Read more]

So actually, if you have good-quality complete pellets (see here: http://www.therabbithouse.com/diet/rabbit-food-comparison.asp), then your rabbit is getting everything she needs from hay and pellets. Veggies are a nice addition for stimulation and just another source of those other vitamins and minerals, but pellets actually cover those…[Read more]
