wow,, i haven’t been here in fricking ages. i guess forums are just not something i really pay much attention to anymore.
I’m down to 4 bunnies now,, i lost my Butters (from my 2013 rescued pair) to cancer last month.. he’d had 3 facial sarcoma removal surgeries since december, and was scheduled for the 4th, but it was growing so damn fast and…[Read more]

Hello everyone, I think the urine staining was a one off thing it hasn’t happened since, his poopy butt got better for a while actually on its own and I’m not sure what the difference was, I give milo endless amounts of timothy hay each day ( I did read orchard hay can cause poopy butt) the poopy butt is acting up a bit again but with no real…[Read more]

do they look like wound-scabs, or just a thick yellowish build-up?
Can you take a super close-up pic of one of the scabbed areas (where it is thickest ideally),, put some mineral oil around the edges of the scabbed area, trying to let it work its way underneath and see if it allows them to release from the skin **Only a little bit at a time…[Read more]

I notice different hay batches can cause different poop sizes (ex. rougher, more stems 1st cut always equals bigger poops for Dorian), so that’s something to consider too.

yeah, the smoke can be horrible. We have been mostly lucky to miss the worst of it this year, just a week or two in August.
I don’t know what you are saying there, her name is obviously Apricot Jam! 😀 (but I may consider Snow Pigeon as a close 2nd)

too cute! He doesn’t look old enough to be neutered, that may cause some issues with the hormones, until you can get that done. But gah I see why you want him!

Bam replied to the topic Allergies After a Year? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago
Onion-smelling poop are definitely not a sign of illness. A rabbit can be spayed/neutered and still produce oniony poops. These poops are often larger than the bun’s average poops and somewhat glossy. The rabbit can produce them even though there’s no other rabbit around. Girl buns especially can be highly territorial by default. The saying “my…[Read more]

OMG look at that little nugget!
Ok the one other thing to consider (which was mentioned to me by Sirius&Luna when I was considering whether to adopt Cooper), is that 4 bunnies really does take a lot more time than 3. It’s weird, going from 1 to 2 isn’t bad. And then adding a third was like OK, this is fine. But then with 4… it’s suddenly a…[Read more]

That all sounds very positive! I think it’s normal for buns to kind of re-assess things over time, if that makes sense? In my other pair, Cooper and Bonnie, Bonnie is super submissive in terms of doing the grooming and who eats first, etc, but every once in a while she tries to mount Cooper! He just looks very confused. lol
So yes, it’s normal to…[Read more]

That sounds very positive! It is SUPER normal for a bun to act really mad when a new bun moves in right next door, and it’s a really great sign that she calmed down so quickly and they are hanging out near each other!

Her poops sounds pretty normal to me! And LOL at the 5 minute sniffing. Next time you trim nails or handle her, I would still take a look at her scent glands. Bigger buns sometimes have more trouble keeping them clean themselves, which could def add to the oniony smell.
Not sure regarding the shelter either, that is a lot of pellets! I only give…[Read more]

She was in brutal form this morning, grunted at me and ran away – sulking about being penned!
She was quite tense then when the little man was put in his pen next to hers… Tail up, staring intently, being very agitated with me when I was feeding her, like food aggression++. But after about an hour, she calmed down and was flopping and dozing…[Read more]

Hmm so I sniffed her poops for about 5 mins lol and my conclusion is that they are onion-y. But why would she be territorial if she is spayed and there are no other buns around?
Her poops generally look a good size and shape (circular, hay on the inside, usually 1 double poop a day). I notice they get smaller usually after her afternoon nap b…[Read more]

Ahhhh, you guys shouldn’t be encouraging me!! 😆
Dana – If I am crazy enough to try this, I probably would go for the two pairs. I think that I’d try Smokey with him, see how that worked out. I’m laughing at that comment on how Lionheads seem to prefer their own. 😆

Ah ok! I’ve definitely been getting too involved so I’ll have to trust them and the process. It’s interesting you mentioned dehydration. Wolfie has always been a really bad drinker but oddly has been much better after bonding with Pixie. My apartment is pretty dry, so it is totally possible he is a wee bit dehydrated. I’ll start adding more water…[Read more]

If needed I think penning or caging one bun is OK if it’s just while they can’t be supervised. Ideally though you just let them sort it out (as long as it’s not fighting). Giving some obstacles (like tunnels and hides with at least 2 exits) can help the bun that’s being mounted get a break.
The other thing that I noticed with mine (but that might…[Read more]

thank you so much, Dana! I just set up a camera facing under the bed (where they are currently) to make sure all stays calm. Wolfie is still flopping in front of her, and they are still sharing the space pretty well. you can just see his brain turn from calm grooming mode to “must. mount. now.” Pixie (the slight bully before) actually seems much…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny cage tips in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 5 years ago
It can be really sad to split them, but it’s for the best! Babies do not form true bonds, and once hormones kick in it can trigger fighting. Then if they do fight, it makes it hard to re-bond them, so it’s best to separate them before that happens.
Just keep an eye on their eating and pooping to make sure one bunny isn’t getting depressed, but…[Read more]

It sounds like things are going OK, and they prob just need some more time, and probably some more settling in time.
Since you’ve only had Merlin a week (if my interpretation is correct), I would pause for a moment and let him just settle into his new home for a week with no side swaps or bonding sessions. I’ve noticed sometimes that bun’s…[Read more]
