Based on your description of his behavior, it really does sound like something very serious was going on. You did the right thing by taking him to the ER.

Sorry again for your loss. <3

Thank you both for your kind words and advice.

    To @pinkiemarie:

In the future I recommend watching every meal so you know immediately if someone isn’t eating like normal. I also would keep baby simethicone and critical care on hand in case you are ever unable to get to a vet for any reason.

Thank you. I do have a camera in the bunny f…[Read more]

I think Benebac is worth trying, but it also might be worth exploring if it’s a mobility issue that prevents them from eating them easily. Since their poops are normal otherwise, it seems like that might be more of the culprit. How old are they? Could they have some arthritis?

Mini-lops can also have some ear issues, so I wonder if there could be…[Read more]

Thanks @DanaNM. Each time we change the papers, they are both nesting on their cecotropes (and may I add, it’s quite smelly).  However it affects one worse than the other, as the other is much better at cleaning herself. So to answer your question, affects both, however symptoms affect one (boy) far more than the other (girl).

    Their poos during…[Read more]

The benefit of the fleece is that it is somewhat safer if it’s accidentally ingested. You could also do cardboard over the vinyl, which would definitely be safe (although not as nice to look at). Maybe you could cover the hot spots with tile, and then put cardboard on top?

The snak shak is technically a treat, but it’s mostly wood, and is super…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss. 🙁

It sounds like you didn’t do anything wrong, but the treatment at the ER sounds unusual. Did they say he had a blockage? Was the vet on staff there at the time rabbit savvy (ER vets usually have a rotating staff of vets)?

In any case, please don’t beat yourself up. It sounds like your bun had some chronic  GI…[Read more]

I’m sorry that happened 🙁 Rabbits are beautiful pets but also very fragile and you didn’t necessarily do anything wrong. They can take a turn very quickly. You took him to an emergency exotic vet and that was the right move.

Hmm, are you sure this is happening with both bunnies, or is it just one?

Do their other poops look normal? As in, are there normal poops + excess cecotropes, or does it seem like all the poops are soft?

Have you reached out to where you adopted them from to see if this was a problem before?

    Sorry for all the questions!

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny Carrier in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago

Agreed, I like the hard-sided carriers sized for a large cat. There are some now with both front and top openings, which seem ideal for bunnies.

You want one that the bun can fit in comfortably, but not so big that they will slide around a lot if there is a sudden change of direction.

My rabbit (neutered, Male, Lionhead, 4-5lbs) passed away 3 weeks ago and I’m absolutely heartbroken still. He was 6 and a half years old and I had him for 6 of those years. He passed away due to GI Stasis; he was fine at 10am and ate his morning pellets, I went to work, noticed he wasn’t eating at around 5pm (his 4pm pellets nor his 4:30pm green…[Read more]

I will echo what LBJ10 said and add that I find it a lot easier to get rabbits in and out of a carrier with a top opening.  There are some carriers that open both on the side and the top, and some with just the top opening.

Hello all – two mini lops here. Boy and girl, fully vaxed, neutered, vet visits up to date. Free roam indoors.

I adopted these buns 6 months ago. From day 1 we had a major poo problem, related to the morning cecotropes. After an extensive amount of research, I can say that I am quite the bunny poo expert, but after trying everything, it’s still a…[Read more]

    Hi everyone,

They have full time access to the carriers andd they recieve treats in there. They also get a handful of alfalfa after the torture of sitting in the car for two minutes XD Nova is very sensitive and has very good intuition, he knows that I plan to use the carriers before I touch them.

Thank you for you concerns. He is free of…[Read more]

There arent always two incisions for a neuter, they can remove both testes through the same incision.

Thank you for the input Dana!

I’ve tried all kinds of cardboard including a cat scratcher. They didn’t care about it at all. lol

Just looked up the snak shak. If it’s classed as a treat, is it safe to let them have extended access to it? As in several hours?

Luckily I work from home so I’m with them the entire time they’re around the carpet.…[Read more]
