Vestibular disease can be a symptom of e cuniculi. The differential is a middle ear infection. E cuniculi can affect any organ system that has a high blood flow, and its not uncommon for it to affect the kidneys. This can lead to incontinence and loss of litterbox habits.
Ec never quite goes away, but the immune system tries its best to keep it…[Read more]

My 7 year-old holland lop, Gus, was diagnosed a couple of years ago with vestibular disease. He used to be litter trained & never missed a beat, but after 4 months the vestibular miraculously disappeared! However, ever since he only very occasionally uses his litter box. He developed urine scald so we bathe him. Recently we found an exotic vet…[Read more]

TBH washing veggies is good but if they were truly contaminated it would not help. I think the steps you are taking with shoes etc are great and it’s awesome you were able to find a clinic!
I was going to suggest renting a car for a day as an alternative to Uber/Lyft if you couldn’t find something local.

I’ve tried with gloves to open his mouth and he won’t let me. This morning he did take a quick drink from his water bottle but has not touched the ig bowl of water and food still there untouched.
he came out of his cage for a few last night but he just sits upright and stares.

EC meds are typically not expensive. Standard treatment is Panacur (fenbendazole) for 28 days, often combined with metacam (meloxocam).
Encephalitozoon cuniculi is a microscopic parasite that lives inside cells. Many rabbits carry it all their lives without ever showing any symptoms. Typical symptoms are hind end weakness, seizures or head…[Read more]

What is EC? Is this expensive? I’m calling my vet tomorrow morning. He also isn’t drinking water.

I’m sorry to hear Bear is unwell. Considering his hind end weakness, this could be EC. He is going to need to see a vet to get proper treatment. If he isn’t eating, then you may need to feed him CC in the meantime. Pellet slurry would also work in a pinch.

I believe my rabbit is in really big trouble! He turns 3 on 4-8.
a couple days ago I had cut a small piece of apple and strawberry for him and his brother. Before I did I was preparing dinner and I had cut up an onion. I washed my hands before giving the fruit to them. But still had the onion smell. He turned away from it but the other rabbit…[Read more]

UPDATE: I found a woman who partners with a vet to run a vaccine clinic out of her home in my city! He’s booked for his first shot at the end of this month. 🙂

Okay, so I called EVERY vet within a distance that I can get to who sees rabbits – they do not have and are unwilling to order the vaccine due to not seeing enough rabbits.
So for right now at least, I am unable to get him vaccinated.
I buy pre-washed veggies, should I wash them again once they get inside? I’m keeping shoes outside the room and…[Read more]

I’m glad you managed to get her the appropriate meds! It’s never easy to find a good vet during holidays.
Silver is a common ingredient in wound care ointments. Fingers crossed it will help her heal!

Hey, thank you so much for the advice.
I do not have a car at the moment so I am unable to go out of my county as I rely on Uber/Lyft to go further distances. There are also no rabbit rescues in my county, only a few veterinarians that see rabbits.
While I work on getting him vaccinated, should I double wash his veggies? I buy pre washed already.

Thank you for the advice! Unfortunately there are no rescues/shelters that have rabbits near me and I do not have a car to travel further out.
