Bunsies started the topic Dirty lil feet in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 10 months ago
So I have 2 buns my oldest (7 months) has nice clean fussy feet. And my youngest (3 months) has pee stains on the bottoms of her feet especially her back feet. They seem to be getting better has she gets older it’s weird. And my oldest bunny who has clean feet now used to have the same thing when he was younger and he just sort of grew out of it.…[Read more]

Okay! How big is your rabbit and how much does he get per day? (Btw thanks for moving my thread to the correct section I’m new here and wasn’t sure where to put some of my topics 😅 )

<p style=”text-align: center;”>@DanaNM Thank you for the information. I appreciate you warning me to keep an eye on her for hormones and I definitely do keep a close on on them ( I plan on getting her spayed at around 6 months) Btw his vet says he doesn’t need pellets anymore but I can still feed them in small amounts each day or as a treat (which…[Read more]

*FYI I moved this thread to the Diet and Care section 🙂
I aim to give my buns three dif greens a day, with more variety in the summer when we have more things from the garden. I make sure the lower calcium veggies make up at least half the salad because one of my buns had some bladder issues. Usually I include a type of lettuce (romaine, red…[Read more]

LOL yes all of my buns will take food out of each others mouths even when they have a fresh pile in front of them. So funny!

Agree with the others. I think confirming they have been spayed would be a great first step. It’s also possible (and not unlikely) that they were spayed, but the move to your home upset their bond a bit. If they were newly bonded, or spayed recently before you adopted them, they could have been undergoing hormonal changes upset their bond.
In any…[Read more]

That’s surprising that it smells again so quickly. And really good points about COVID or a potential UTI.
One thing I’ve noticed with my rabbits is that when I switched pellet brands their urine stopped smelling pretty substantially. Not sure if it would be available in your area, but I feed Sherwood pellets (a lot of reviews also mention less…[Read more]

It’s great you have such good hay eaters!
If they are going through the hay in their box then yes I would recommend adding a hay rack just so they always have some hay available. I found these holders at Ross that are toilet paper roll holders, and they are perfect hay racks!

Since he’s under a year old he should still be getting alfalfa pellets regularly, but he doesn’t need unlimited like he did as a baby.
And yes you can start introducing veggies, although if it’s easier to wait till his bonded mate is old enough you could wait another month (usually veggies can be introduced at 12 weeks). You want to start with…[Read more]

Veggies can definitely be a part of his diet now, but the main part of his food should still be hay. Veggies are good as enrichment, but not essential from a nutritional perspective. If a rabbit fills up on too much veggies, it will eat less hay. It’s only hay (and fresh grass) that has the capacity to wear the teeth correctly.

Hey! So one of my buns is 7 months old and I was just wondering if veggies should be a daily part of his diet now? His current diet is Timothy hay 24/7 occasional alfalfa as a treat and he sometimes gets to eat a couple of tbs scoops of oxbow young rabbit pellets alongside his 3month old girlfriend. He is a lionhead/mini rex mix. Nuedered. Weight:…[Read more]

More good news from this side: Molly is a bit calmer and hasn’t attacked us this week. And Owen finally decided to try sofa snuggles! (My knees and back are overjoyed…)

What veggies do your buns get everyday?

One thing I have a problem with my buns is they munch up their hay so fast that they do not have access to fresh hay 24/7 . Don’t get me wrong, they’re litterboxes are dumped rinsed and replaced with a new liner and a big pile of fresh hay every day and they always have hay available just not always fresh (what I mean by not always fresh is I mean…[Read more]

Have you had COVID? I’m just wondering if your sense of smell was altered and perhaps that is why her urine smells so bad to you.
If it isn’t that, have you thought about having her checked for a UTI? Sometimes bacteria can be pretty smelly.

Hmm… yes, I would be suspicious too. I think your best bet would be to see if you can get some confirmation that they are both, in fact, spayed. A vet can look for a scar. They could also do an ultrasound to look for a uterus and ovaries. They both have to be spayed, otherwise they will be virtually impossible to bond (I know there are…[Read more]

If there is concerns that perhaps this particular animal shelter is not well-informed on rabbits, I would have a vet examine for a spay scar…. unsure if a physical exam can feel the absence of the uterus or not. Separately, if not a well-informed shelter, regardless of spay status or not, the rabbits may not have been bonded properly in the…[Read more]
