Not all screens are equal. There are many screens that sit comfortably right on top of the litter and they are created in a way that generally does not facilitate sore hocks either. Here’s an example with plastic knitting mesh: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/sh5dzp/housing_example_litterbox_setup/
The screens that are elevated above…[Read more]

Hmmm, I am also wondering about other types of grass hay. Have you tried oat hay? You may be able to order it online. The fact that she will eat some out of your hand is at least a start. Have you tried offering the hay in a bunch of different presentations? Like little boxes around with hay sticking out, or stuffed into toys etc.? I think…[Read more]

Rabbit urine can indeed be orange, and even very dark orange. If you have concerns about blood, you can put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in the pee puddle and if it fizzes violently, that’s an indicator there’s likely blood in there, which is a cause for concern.
Take a look here for the healthy range of pee color and what may cause it:…[Read more]

So at times, rabbits are very much like kids. If you are continuing to provide alfalfa hay in meaningful quantities, she is going to continue eating it. For many rabbits, you sort of just need to rip off the bandaid and let their hunger motivate them to try and eat non-alfalfa hay more (making sure the timothy/orchard/oat/etc. hay you’re providing…[Read more]

My bunny is actually 2 years old and I know it’s really bad that she’s been eating alfalfa for such a long time but pet shops weren’t selling other hay (where I live) and i didn’t have an option. When I finally found other hay 1 year ago (it was meadow) I tried to give it to her but she refused it and it’s not like I quit trying immediately.…[Read more]

So this is very sad. More bunnies are going in to rescue/abandoned because many vets/charities like the RSPCA, PDSA. Blue Cross to name a few will not deal with rabbits anymore leaving very few private vets that charge extortionate prices with a very long waiting list. A lot of people will not pay because they either can’t afford too or they don’t…[Read more]

So past 2 days I have cleaned up some pee of the ground which is unusual for our girls but we also have babies that are still learning so I have no clue which bun it was. But while cleaning I noticed the pee darker than usal and my boyfriend who just cleaned a puddle said there was a bit of red but to me it looked like an orange brown. Should I be…[Read more]

How old is your bun? Up to 7 months, alfalfa is fine.
Regardibg timothy hay, there are manuy other grass hays that are just as good for buns as timothy. In f ex Austriala, buns never get timothy bexause it wint grow there. You can try any other grass hay that horses eat, f ex orchard, oat hay or the mixed grasses often sold as meadow hay. Timothy…[Read more]

Please share some tips for getting your rabbit to eat timothy hay. I’ve literally tried everything I’ve read on the internet but nothing works. I think she would rather starve herself than accept timothy. I’ve tried mixing the hay with alfalfa but she only eats the alfalfa, then I’ve tried sprinkling the hay with pellets and banana slices and she…[Read more]

When we first got them, we took them into a local vet for a check-up. He said they were healthy, but to prove they were spayed, they would have to do an ultrasound…. which costs over a grand. So I haven’t been exactly jumping at the chance to have this proven.
What gets me so angry is that the human society’s site guarantees spays/neutering f…[Read more]

Oh sorry I didn’t read that you can’t do a taller box. Still you could try a separate box designated specifically to digging. Let me know if you’ve figured it out 😊

Some bunnies just can’t hold back their instinct to dig. You could try getting her a deeper container filled with toys and soft litter (no hay or she will use it as the bathroom) and try to get her to use that as her “dig box” perhaps try something that has 3 really high sides and 1 lower side for her to jump in to help with the mess. But you…[Read more]

So I have 2 buns my oldest (7 months) has nice clean fussy feet. And my youngest (3 months) has pee stains on the bottoms of her feet especially her back feet. They seem to be getting better has she gets older it’s weird. And my oldest bunny who has clean feet now used to have the same thing when he was younger and he just sort of grew out of it.…[Read more]

<p style=”text-align: center;”>@DanaNM Thank you for the information. I appreciate you warning me to keep an eye on her for hormones and I definitely do keep a close on on them ( I plan on getting her spayed at around 6 months) Btw his vet says he doesn’t need pellets anymore but I can still feed them in small amounts each day or as a treat (which…[Read more]

I aim to give my buns three dif greens a day, with more variety in the summer when we have more things from the garden. I make sure the lower calcium veggies make up at least half the salad because one of my buns had some bladder issues. Usually I include a type of lettuce (romaine, red…[Read more]
