It has to do with a disturbance in the gut microbiota, i e all the various bacteria and yeasts (funghi) that the rabbit gut is highly dependant on for it’s proper function. This disturbance could be at the root of his appetite loss, or it could be an effect of the gi stasis. This is not uncommon in rabbits that are being treated for GI-stasis, but…[Read more]

Cecal dysbiosis can present this way. Sometimes you won’t see much of what resembles “regular” poop.

Hi!
My bunny’s been tilting his mouth while chewing hay. He doesn’t do this with every bite. His head isn’t tilting, it’s more of his mouth (kind of like this :/). He’s been chewing on the side that’s tilted upward a bit more, but he does chew on both sides. Is he ok??
Thank u!!

It’s not though. This is how ALL of his poop looks.

Small, misshapen poops are usually a sign of dehydration. Does your bunny drink a decent amount of water?

Looks like a bunch of mushy cecotropes to me.

He is eating pretty much only Critical Care. There’s nothing solid in his diet like hay so I assumed the poop is fitting since it’s so soft going in. I dilute it with more water since he hates it and spits it out so it’s very watery.
Here is a photo of the poop for those that want to see. Sorry if it’s TMI.

Thanks for the reply! I will ask the doctor, she is on day 3 of sulfatrim and while showing improvements she is still doing that strange breathing. I will follow up with the dr. for more of the antibiotics. Thank you!!

The poop is also very large — like mud piles. It comes out in huge chunks and it almost looks like dog poop. It’s also misshaped and smells awful. His bottom is understandably very dirty afterwards and he does his best to clean himself. This is such a contrast from his regular round golden balls.

Hello folks~
I recently purchased the Viking Farmer 2nd cut Timothy hay from Amazon, it is green and leafy, and my bunny Richard is crazy about it. When he is fed on this hay, his poops are in a water-drop shape, but each one is in a similar size, so weird in shape but even in size.
Normally his poops are healthy, round and about 8mm in radius…[Read more]

Depends. Are they free-roam during the day? Some bunnies are very good about not pooping in areas outside of their home base, but they will see their entire home base as fair game. So when they are confined to their home base (like at night), you may notice a lot more poop on the floor around the litter box.

Bunnies on Critical Care should not have watery poop. As Bam said, they can get sticky poop though.

LBJ10 replied to the topic respiratory infection? hiccups? something else? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 8 months ago
Hmm… are the hiccups preceded by a sneezing fit? Sometimes violent coughing/sneezing can trigger spasms in the diaphragm. I agree with Bam though. That is a very short course of antibiotics, which is likely not sufficient.
