If this persists, I’d still suspect ears. Lops are very prone. Wax and debris can build up over time and put pressure on the tympanic membrane (ear drum). If it goes on too long, the ear drum will rupture an render the bun deaf on that ear. There is also a direct connection between the nasal cavity and the middle ear via the ear trumpet…[Read more]

Thanks for thought! We treated a full treatment for syphillis no change and his genitals are fine. We did both the PCR and the swab for ringworms and negative for that too 😢 will take all thoughts!

I think it might be good to do a bit of “bonding bootcamp” with them, which basically means some bonding sessions in a neutral space to see if they can resolve these issues.
You could take them to a neutral area and see if you can spend the weekend or a few overnights with them there. Sometimes that’s all that’s needed to help them straighten…[Read more]

Hmmm this looks like ringworm to me, or possibly syphilis? @WickandFable, what do you think? I wonder if the tests the vet did are reliable or could have given a false negative. Some vets will treat based on symptoms rather than a test result since many tests are unreliable.
It wouldn’t explain the ears, but drooling due to dental issues can also…[Read more]

To bond them, we each gave them half of the house, split with an ex-pen, and then switched their habitats each day so they wouldn’t get too territorial over one part of the apartment. (This was absolutely miserable, they both spent the whole day rattling the ex pen trying to get into the other part of the house)
I feel like our bonding process w…[Read more]

Thanks! His ears were also checked and fine even the vet had no more ideas on what to check. He’s also acting perfectly normal. Wondering if it could be allergies or autoimmune?

Have your vets examined his ears?
Lops are very prone to ear infections. Any long term infection can cause problems in other areas of the body. Any major infection will occupy the immune defense to a degree where it can no longer successfully fight off problems in other bodily areas.
You can try to palpate his ears and ear bases. If you feel a…[Read more]

I have a young little male lop who’s been suffering from crusty and bloody looking scabs under his chin and this causes fur loss. It waves where the scabs go away and come back in 2 weeks, then recently his ear tops started losing fur too and the tips of his ears are flaking like it’s dry. He’s been to the vet a handful of times and did a biops…[Read more]

I’ll look at it when he comes out again. He was letting me touch and pet him yesterday, including the ear, but now he’s being huffy again. I’m hoping it’s just because I woke him up or something.

Agrer with LBJ. If it is ear mites, you’ll see crusts forming on the inside of the ear, starting near the base and working their way upwards. If you remove a crust there will be bleeding, and the bun will react with pain. Revolution (selamectin) or ivermectin constitue the gold standard for treatment. Repeat treatment to eradicate larvae that were…[Read more]

She is 7 months. I’ve had many buns but she is youngest. Eating a huge amount of hay with a huge amount of energy and curiosity. I expect jumping to seat height level but she’s going much higher and only 2-3lbs. Zoomies and jumping takes precedent everything else, even pellets and treats.
I have a bun who broke his paw from jumping so…

Haha! Hardwood floors were “hot lava” in my house. It didn’t matter how “used” they were to the slippery floors, my boys didn’t like it. I had to buy an extra long runner that ran the entire length of the hallway. This allowed them to get from their room to the rug in the living room. Once the rug was there, they had absolutely no issues with…[Read more]
