I wouldn’t go too closely of the age range for the breed specifically. If she is in good health you could have several more years with her (my Bun Jovi just turned 14… he’s not a holland lop but is around the same size as one).

For seniors the main things to pay attention to are digestion, weight, and mobility. Some seniors have trouble keeping…[Read more]

Agree with Bam,  I would try another hay, or a new bag of the same type. Sometimes a bag is just “off” and the bun doesn’t like it.

If she wont eat enough hay after 4-5 days with the new hay I would try a different hay. Rabbits can eat many different grass hays, not just timothy. Orchard or oat hay, for example. As you are saying, she needs hay for her tummy to work properly.

About 4 or 5 days ago I got a new bag of hay for my rabbit and she wont eat it. It looks like a different cutting than it usually is. I’ve got her to eat a very small amount of it but nowhere near how much she usually does.

I posted about this here a little while ago (she used to do this a lot) and you all suggested to just wait a little while…[Read more]

Hey guys, I had a question that is a little sad for me. Jumping Jack is almost 9. I hear Holland Lops live about 10 years. So I figure she’s well past being a senior, and has roughly a year, maybe two if I’m lucky, left

With all my other animals, when they get to this stage of life, I tend to focus less on their nutrition and the unpleasant…[Read more]

@mia brings up a very good point. Illness in one bun can trigger upsets to the bond. @saelwia , it’s been some time now, how are your bunnies doing?

Myra does exactly this sometimes! I interpret it exactly as Bam described, that she’s saying “excuse me, please move”.

If a bun actually does nip you, you can communicate that they hurt you by making a loud “EEEEK” noise. Since they nip each other through fur, a nip that would not hurt another bunny could still pinch a bit for a human.

Is there anything stressful going on in your home? This over grooming is also known as “barbering” and I’ve seen it happen in bonded pairs when they are under a lot of stress. If she is grooming areas that are actually wounds then something should be done to prevent it. I know of another bunny that was overgrooming himself who ended up needing…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic I believe my rabbit is having dental issues and has developed an abcess in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 7 months ago

Penicillin injections are a very standard treatment for rabbit abscesses, so it’s good you got the culture to confirm! Usually a relatively long course is giving, and the injections are given at home as a sub-cutaneous shot. I’ve had to give them before… it was stressful the first couple times but honestly it’s easier than syringe feeding and…[Read more]

Oh yeah, that is what happened her first go around with this. This time however there was no mouth sore. Interesting.  I’ve pretty much barricaded every wooden surface I can think of apart from a few I need to get more wire grids for. The biggest culprit is my boxspring which I had to entirely encase as she was actually gnawing through the fabric…[Read more]

No harm in giving them regularly. Most rabbits destroy them pretty quickly though.

I’ve had this happen to two groups of buns. Fully bonded (years with no incidence), then suddenly have a really bad fight sometimes even breaking skin, and immediately make up. Recently, this also happened at a certain time of day for a couple weeks, and then magically the issue disappeared. The only thing I’ve been able to find in common is that…[Read more]

Now there’s another spot above his eye. Youngest bun going at it quite a bit, plus the old spot.

If it’s just a gentle “nip” it could be a polite bunny way to say “please move away, Sir, if you’d be so kind”. A rabbit that bites out of anger or fear tends to draw blood.

I dont think it’s anything to worry about. Rabbits are not bred to not bite humans, the way dogs are. So if a rabbit actually bites the human, it doesnt mean its a “bad” rabbit.

Haha I love it!  Yeah, they might not know it, but we do.  🙂

Thank you so much, Dana.  Teddy had another brief little dip the other day, just a half hour really, where he didn’t even want treats.  Massage seems to help, and he’s been a lot better since, but we did make a vet appt for tomorrow evening just to see what’s going on since this has…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonding in the forum BONDING 2 years, 7 months ago

So, it is possible to bond them, but it is a more involved process than just putting them together.  Baby bonds are not true bonds, which is unfortunately a common misconception. You are on the right track with getting them neutered. Once they are bonded, they would share all living arrangements. During the bonding process, you would need to…[Read more]

Hi everyone, recently I have bonded my two bunnies Starlight and Sandy. They get a long no issue but recently Sandy seems to almost seem like he wants to nip my husband when he pets him. It’s not actual biting but Sandy  puts his teeth lightly on my husband’s arm, only my husband though not me. Can anyone explain why he would do this? He seem…[Read more]
