I think you could keep an eye on her feet and see how she does. Is the rug very soft? A good test is to rub your inner forearm on the rug. If it burns then it could cause too much friction on the feet. I think focusing on the areas where she spends the most time sitting and resting is helpful too, as the pressure on the hocks is greatest when they…[Read more]

Agree with others that this warrants a trip to the vet. Syphilis was my first thought as well.

Yes, I read about rabbit syphilis but wasn’t sure if a bunny can just suddenly start to develop symptoms of this at 3 years of age?

I’ve made a vet appointment to have it seen….

Hmmm, I would probably take her to the vet since it’s been a few days of this. If it was just an isolated fit of sneezing then I would suspect dust from hay, but since it’s been going on for a bit it could be a respiratory issue or even something stuck in her sinuses.

    Yay for poop!

Bring Miu with you to pick him up so they can ride home together in the carrier (although at this point you may have already picked him up). Then leave them in the carrier together for 30 min or so when you get home. I’m sure they will be happy to see each other!

I saw this on insta,  so sorry you are going through this! Hopefully he starts eating soon. I would have done the same thing, especially because liver torsion often presents as stasis. Sending many good vibes for Dorian <3

This actually looks like sth you shouldnt try to treat yourself. Any idea how he could have got it? Fight with another rabbit, injury from running into sth at full speed, a fall, things like that?

When rabbits get “inexplicable” sores around their nostrils/mouth area, treponematosis aka rabbit syphilis is always a suspect. (It is not the same as…[Read more]

Hi! I’ve resubmitted the image to be posted… hopefully it will work this time! (I’m new to this forum so still trying to figure it out!)

The sore is on his nostril and down one side of the part leading to his lip. There aren’t any other regions affected, that I can see. His appetite and behaviour has remained unchanged.

    I’ve made an…[Read more]

Unfortunately, your image is not showing up for me — however, in general, it is highly recommended NOT to try and self-medicate at home, especially when you have no idea of the cause of the sore. I would take your rabbit to be assessed by a rabbit-savvy vet, as there are many causes for sores.

You can use plain (without an added painkiller) neosporin or triple antibiotics cream on rabbits, but it wouldnt be much use if he can lick or groom it off immediately. The same would go for any topical antifungal. If it’s an uncomplicated sore, it should heal without intervention.

How big is the sore? Does he live with other rabbits? Are any…[Read more]

While not a medical professional, you can read Dorian’s body language best! In general, having CC on hand to supplement lack of appetite is great, and making the environment as easy to navigate as possible would also be a plus. Ensuring you have proper pain med management is also important. I would also ask the operating vet about some timeline…[Read more]

    Yay for poop!

I too think he’ll heal better att home. Just keep in mind that Miu might think he smells weird and be cross. Maybe first rub a towel or similar over him (lightly) and give her to smell before you let them out together?

It’s really important that he keeps warm, but lying next to Miu will ensure that.

You may have to support feed…[Read more]

Hello! I discovered this sore on Bennett’s nostril tonight and I was wondering if anyone might know what it could be? If it’s fungal, perhaps I can treat at home? Is polysporin an option to try, as it’s triple antibiotic? Being so close to his mouth, is that advised? Any advice is…[Read more]

The vacuum is too loud for me. However my parents did it for me and my stepmom said that there were no reactions from him. Or my girl though I know my girl can hear. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Jrw89! I am glad to hear that your Hugh is healing from his hock sore. Do you have him in a confined area to make sure he is only on those materials? If so, what do you do when you want to let him out to play? I am only asking because my bunny is a free roam bunny and I am struggling to find ways to make the flooring in the house suitable to her feet.

Thank you so much for your tips Dana! Do you think it is enough to have a rug with a carpet pad underneath it? That is what I put her on since she got the sores (she used to be on a very thin carpet over hard wood, no pad underneath it). I have heard about the fleece/vetbed before but I just don’t know how to achieve this since she is a free roam…[Read more]

Luckily he pooped. Yay for poop! So I am going to pick him up and take him home. He will need a lot of care, which I am hoping I can manage. Hopefully he will recover faster in the comfort of home though.
