When you don’t give the full dose, some of the bacteria will survive that are naturally more resistant (just due to natural variation in their genes). Those bacteria go on to reproduce and take over.

Wait how does it cause antibiotic resistance?

I did and they don’t unfortunately. I wonder if they sell flavors OTC.

I second trying a lint roller! For some of my buns that’s the only thing that works!

You can also ask your vet if the can compound the medication with a better flavor. My vet used to make up fruit flavored antibiotics for my buns.

You really need to be giving the medication at the dosage prescribed. To give less than your vet recommended risks causing antibiotic resistance, which would make the infection much much harder to treat.
If you have concerns about the amount this needs to be addressed with your vet.
Baytril is generally very well tolerated in rabbits and is…[Read more]

Oh also I’ve been giving 0.6 cc once a day instead of 0.8 cc. I’m just so scared of antibiotics because he was on a different antibiotic in the past and had complete diarrhea 😭

My rabbit has Bordatella and Pasteurella, so he was recently prescribed Baytril suspension orally. The vet said twice a day, but my rabbit is so small (3.5 pounds) that I’m afraid it would be too much for him. Also it’s difficult for him to take it because the flavor is so nasty. I’ve been doing once a day for these past couple days, but I don’t…[Read more]

Lint rolling could perhaps work for his fur? I lint roll Snöa, she’s a rex and I havent found a a brush or comb or slicker that picks up her short, super-fine hairs. Lint rolling has been great though, she doesnt even hate it. She’s shedding heavily right now so I lint roll her every 2 or 3 days, in between I just pluck loose tufts with my…[Read more]

thanks Bam!
He had a follow up with regular vet (and Miu had her yearly check up). I asked her and she said being extra diligent with brushing is the best additional thing I can do. He has super fine silky hair that is so much harder to deal with than Miu’s lionhead tangles, her fluff comes out in nice tufts. I have groomed him via gentle…[Read more]

I agree. Your best bet will be to use ultra absorbent materials to keep her dry. Dana had a pretty good setup figured out for her bunny.

Azithromyacin is known to cause decreased appetite. I don’t know if it’s stomach pain necessarily… more like nausea, or whatever the equivalent feeling would be for a rabbit. This antibiotic is used to treat pneumonia and stubborn URIs. I had a bunny that was on azithromyacin multiple times. From his reaction to it, I would say it did not taste…[Read more]

This is very difficult and you do need to discuss it with your vet. Perhaps ask if Pepcid (famotidibe) could be given to help with the stomach pain? Or if you could give antibiotics as injections, so they dont have to pass through the stomach.
Since we’re not vets here we cant really recommend you on what to do. Do you think he still…[Read more]

I also echo Sheepette flooring, as it will get the urine away quickly so it has as little contact with the rabbit as possible. It is washable and you can buy larger surfaces of it, so it would be a good investment.

I’m very sorry you are dealing with this, urine scald is something that can be hard to get under control once it starts.
I had good luck using sheepette medical faux shearling on top of pee pads (I used washable ones) with my disabled senior. The sheepette wicks the pee away so the bun doesn’t contact it. I recommend covering her entire area in…[Read more]

Howdy. Our 7 year old bun got a back injury 2 years ago that has caused her to struggle with her back legs. Since February, she’s also be suffering with constant urine scalding. we had taken her to the vet because she was dragging her back legs. She has pain meds for the scalding, but the vet said to just keep bathing the soiled area clean and c…[Read more]

I’m in the same place right now. I lost my beautiful little Netherland dwarf Oliver. He was the sweetest rabbit. He would follow me around my room, sit on my lap all the time, watch movies with me, and even play cards (he would toss them around). He was my first rabbit. He passed of stasis from an unknown cause, it happened very fast, in only 1…[Read more]

If the humane society clinic regularly does rabbits and they are recommended by the local HRS, then I think it’s worth looking into. Just because they are low cost does not mean they are not competent.
