He is quite vocal, but some buns are vocal. Does he make these noises in any particular situation? Like, when he’s being grumpy or when you pet him, or after he’s been physically active? Or does he sound like this all the time?

Rabbits only breathe through their noses, and they can get “bunny colds” that might develop into lower airway…[Read more]

Hi, my rabbit has been having some very loud breathing since I believe over 5 months ago. I told my vet about it, but he said “it’s normal” and “there’s no way to change that.” I’m worried because his breathing seems delayed and as if something is stuck. He also sneezes a lot. Any other folks went through this or know about what could be the…[Read more]

Thanks so much for your response. The vet told me to use the entire bottle which seemed very excessive because just one drop seemed messy enough. I used (almost) the whole bottle on him but had to wipe it off soon after because of the pungent smell it was emitting. I guess the only way I’m treating them is by vacuuming everyday, changing the hay &…[Read more]

    Poor baby 🙁

Keep syringe feeding and offering lots of types of greens. It’s good you gave the buprenorphine, I would ask if you can give more metacam as well. For syringe feeding on your own, I like to put the bun on a towel on the table. You can wrap her in the towel like a burrito if she’s squirming a lot. I like to use a “C-grip” with my left…[Read more]

Hi everyone. My rabbit Rue was just spayed yesterday and she’s been having a rough go of it. I dropped her off at the vet at 7:30am and picked her up at 5pm. Based on the vet’s call, I think her surgery was around 2pm. She is a stasis prone bun and I am worried about her not eating. I’ve offered her a variety of greens, various hays, treats, etc.…[Read more]

Isn’t “dry mouth” a side effect of Tramadol in people? Maybe Teddy just has dry mouth. It can take awhile for side effects to show up sometimes. Plus if he’s not eating as much, he isn’t going to be producing as much saliva anyway.

Hmmm, this is tricky. The excess colorless pee could indicate kidney failure. Excess urination without excess drinking is worrisome. The licking of the mouth and mouth movements could indicate some dental pain, especially since the vet did notice some molar points. The reduced appetite could be from the dental pain, or it could be from kidney…[Read more]

I think its important that you keep giving the sub q fluids. If he eats little fiber he won’t feel thirsty, but his body still needs fluids.

Rabbits are obligate nose breathers, so  if a bun is breathing through its mouth, sth is wrong, especially if the bun points his nose up.

The licking sounds like some type of local discomfort, but it could…[Read more]

Thank you so much, BZOO!  I really appreciate it.

I’d love your and/or anyone else’s thoughts on what to make of the 4 new symptoms I listed above.  I’ll just add that today we did not give subq fluids and his urine has color again.  I tried decreasing tramadol further (to 50% of the original dosage) so we’ll see how that goes.  Teddy was ver…[Read more]

Sorry your boy is having a rough time.

When it comes to “that decision”, listen to your heart…you will know.

I had a dog that was nearing the end.  I told him, just make it to your 15th birthday.  He did, a few days later he gave me the look and I knew he was ready to go.

Afterward, you will ask yourself was it too early, did I wait too l…[Read more]

Hi everyone!  Teddy has some new issues that I’m not sure what to do about, and I’d love your advice.

After I wrote, we did try decreasing Teddy’s tramadol by 20% and he perked up for a while after that!  For a couple of weeks he was eating everything quite well (except for hay, which he hasn’t really eaten in a couple months) and he stopped n…[Read more]

Elder bun(s) who has trouble keeping weight up. One has a severe issue* while other has always been a light weight but doesn’t have any issues . So adult pellets (using a couple here for different texture to keep it interesting) + junior pellets (for more nutrients and yummier taste)

*we are trying to figure out what’s going on so this may be…[Read more]

That is a very unusual recommendation. Wondering what their reasoning behind it is.

Helo everyone I just finished the second bonding session I had planned to only do a 5-minute session today but they were doing so well it ended up being a 20-minute session after some mounting from Vanilla they started eating hay together and grooming themselves and Vallina even groomed Katniss twice!

“3 different kinds mixed together” – please note that mixing different pellet brands together is not recommended. Good-quality pellet brands are specially formulated w/ their recommended serving sizes based on their nutritional value. There is no need to mix in more. If good quality, they all are providing the same sufficient nutrients and feeding…[Read more]

Right now, the pellets is 3 different kinds mixed together; I’m trying to give the older boys more nutrients. Yes, the buns all live together so if I just leave pellets out, the older boys will eat them.

She prefers playing than eating and of course I can’t exactly stop her from playing. She’ll come running into with the boys, nibble on a few…[Read more]
