shayd started the topic Matted fur under eye and sneezing? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 5 months ago
A few days ago I noticed my bunny had mattered fur under his eye. I tried to wash it off with a warm wash cloth, but it wouldn’t come out, almost like it’s not water soluble. Then today (probably 4 days after the matted fur appeared) he’s been sneezing a lot. He’ll sneeze like 6 times in a row, and has done it 3 or 4 times today and I haven…[Read more]

It can be wise to put the box in the spot the bun chooses. I once caught a stray bun (named him Yohio) outdoors, I quarantined him in a big hutch run that I’d built as a “summer cottage” for the bun I already had. I noticed he’d pee and poop in one corner of the run, so I put a box there. He accepted the box as his toilet right away, and I think…[Read more]

What type of flooring is in her home base, and where does she have hay available? Some buns will pee wherever they eat hay, and many will pee on soft surfaces. With one of my buns I couldn’t have any blankets in her pen unless they were stretched very tightly over a firm surface, and I had to position her hay rack so she could only reach it when…[Read more]

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply!
Yes that makes more sense, considering it’s just in that area and nowhere else. I will try lowering the sides of the litterbox and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks again! 🙂

While we say rabbits can be litter-box trained, it’s actually probably more accurate to say that their natural behaviors/inclinations lend themselves to use litterboxes. In reality, they often aren’t encoding that a random rectangular vessel is where they should go, but rather we set it up in places and w/ contents that make the rabbits want to…[Read more]

hello! First post here! I have a 1 year old spayed female bunny that free roams in my apartment. I have had her since she was 8 weeks old and she has been pretty consistent with the litter training since I got her until a few months ago. After she was spayed in November I noticed she started marking in two places in her “home base” and I can…[Read more]

I think it’s more likely he just has chosen that area as his potty spot. Buns don’t always see the box itself as the potty area, and will treat the general zone as their toilet area. One of my buns was doing this in an area just outside his box, so I added a smaller box with lower sides to that area and it solved the problem.

Hi @Bam!
He peed outside of the litterbox again today. It was a normal pale yellow, and he’s super healthy and happy as usual! But I think I may have figured out why he is peeing in that exact spot! That same spot is the spot I leave from after I have given him attention and I leave to do other things. Do you think it is possible he is peeing t…[Read more]

Well, the update I had planned to post has changed just within the last half hour.
Charlie has been on the antibiotic Baytril and benedryl for 10 days now. Thursday she had a very sneezy, runny nose kind of day then absolutely nothing until, sadly today.
We went 4 days without me hearing or seeing anything. It’s possible as we were gone a bit on S…[Read more] -

Ugh that is so frustrating!
If you did blood work and labs for both rabbits, 800 doesn’t seem out of the range of normal, but if that was just for one rabbit that is on the high end (depends on what tests were done though, blood work can be expensive). And charging you to run the test again when they suspect an error would raise a red flag for me…[Read more]

There is a vet like an hour or 30 mins away from me and I went there once but I didn’t really feel that the person was rabbit savvy. However, that was long time ago so perhaps they changed. They also have a new vet I heard. Most rabbit owners in the area come to the vet I’m seeing because there’s not many choices. The vet seems to have exper…[Read more]

I think I saw improvement for a while, but then it happened again slowly.
also update: I went to the vet for sore hocks (he said it’s just callus and that all rabbits have it) and mentioned the breathing and he said “yeah it’s chronic” and that’s pretty much it.
we also did blood tests for him and my other rabbit. my other rabbit showed re…[Read more]

Hello again, party girl 💃 😃 💃
I find water bowls need deep cleaning a lot more often in the summer than in the winter. When you feel the inside off a bowl he bowl with your fingers, you can feel if there’s a “slippiness” covering the bowlwall, almost like oil. That’s a bacterial film. Its completely normal but it does provide an excellent…[Read more]

Hey party people! (I’m trying to be funny, sorry) It’s been a while since I was last here, I really need to check up here more often. Anyway I have a few questions, the first being how often should I clean Blossom and Thumper’s water bowls?
Just before I first got them (like 3 or 4 days before I got them) the research I did said to just rise and w…[Read more] - Load More
