Yes, you really shouldn’t bathe a bunny. There are a few extreme situations where one is warranted, of course, but the vast majority of the time a bath would do more harm than good. I agree with Bam that he could just have crappy fur that was the result of a crappy diet. It will take time for that fur to be replaced with healthier fur.

    As for the…[Read more]

You’re quite right in that rabbits don’t need full baths and they shouldnt have a full bath except in extreme scenarios where the bun has gotten sth toxic all over its fur.

Revolution could help though, not all mites are very visible to the naked eye. Vets often treat with Revolution on suspicion. Even if a vet does a tape-test, they might not…[Read more]

It’s been a while since I dropped by, I haven’t had time to read and catch up on things but I wanted to share an update on Apollo and Luna.

They are well into senior life now, both being approximately 10+ years old. Luna had her left eye removed early this year and she bounced back from that really well. She still struggles to maintain weight due…[Read more]

I wonder if doing an elimination diet could be a good idea? To see if there is an ingredient in the pellets or a specific veggie that could be triggering him? I know some members have had issues with one specific thing causing gas (like one slightly brown mint leaf). Some buns also don’t seem to tolerate veggies well. And of course others just get…[Read more]

I agree. A lot of times, gunk will become loose and it will be moving around inside the ear canal causing a “tickle”.

There could be goo in the outer ear canal, ie wax and debris. The drops are supposed to soften that up so it can come out, sometimes it’s even a bit protruding so you can see it if you look inside the ears, sometimes its even possible to pull out stuff with tweezers. If there is debris that can’t come out, your vet should be able to  express…[Read more]

Charlie has been on the baytril Otic  ear drops for 10 days now. She’s eating  and pottying well and I have not had to use the gabapentin for pain.

However, she seem to be shaking her head more and scratching her ears. The vet said it’s an outer ear infection. Can the ear drops be bothering her hours after they are administered? I expect she w…[Read more]

In a webbinar in Feb, the rabbit vet that scientific support for probiotics for GI problems isn’t great. The studies I’ve read have been designed to help figure out ways to improve survival and weight gain in baby buns that are not pets. Saccharomyces cerevisiae has shown promise in that respect. It is a component in two supplements that I’ve used…[Read more]

Oh that’s helpful to know.  I might make an appointment with an ophthalmologist and see what they say.  It’s been a very expensive couple of vet months so probably not this year unless she somehow seems worse (vision or pain) . Right now she’s been a very happy little bun and she gets very stressed about cars and vet visits,  so also don’t want to…[Read more]

Maybe I will look at the digestive support as well! I have a feeling that may be easier to pick up.

And Bam thanks for all the info! Dorian tends to snack on cecotropes in the evening, mostly they both nap from noon to 3pm. I will look where I can find benebac.

Hmm… yeah, there would definitely be a cost-benefit analysis involved. As long as the cataracts doesn’t progress too far, bunnies can live a decent life without being able to see very well. Hypermature cataracts, however, can be very painful. The problem is cataracts surgery doesn’t do anything to restore vision if the retina is also…[Read more]
