I’m glad to hear she is done and waking up! Hopefully she will be good for a while. Some bunnies just need it done once and then they are back on track. Others have recurring issues. I agree with Bam that the best way to keep the teeth worn down is to make sure your bunny eats lots of hay.

Thank you! She just got done with the procedure as I am typing this. She is starting to wake up and hopefully will have an easy recovery. I hope she eats her critical care on her own, she usually loves it to an extreme point so hopefully that encourages her.
(Sorry, I didn’t know it wasn’t allowed 🫣)

@Bam thank you so much for the advice and all of the info! I will ask on Friday about how we can get an X-ray done.
I’m not sure if it’s the painkillers but she seems pretty ok today, besides lying in her litter box instead of where she usually lies. I’m hoping this is also an indication of a UTI or something and she feels like she needs to wee m…[Read more]

Ngl, this brings back rather traumatic memories for me.
My advice is get x-rays of the lower abdomen and the lungs. This lump isn’t huge. It could be growing fast though, in which case it could be some sort of abscess (walled-off soft tissue cavity filled with pus) or a bad tumor. A tumor can be rock-hard bc of calcium deposits (calcification).…[Read more]

Dental problems are common in rabbits, and you are right that they should be dealt with asap, before they develop into really bad problems. A dental burr to remove spurs is usually a quick affair, the bun isn’t under for a long time.
4 years is not old, but rather a typical age when dental problems start to occur. Some vets prefer to do bloodwork…[Read more]

Hi everyone!
First time posting here in a long time, I’m just a little bit stressed and was hoping for some advice. Sorry in advance that this is a long one but I’m worried there’s some clue we’re missing!
My little bun Moomin is 8 years old, she’s been pretty much in perfect health until now. For context her partner died of presumed E. Cunicu…[Read more]

Hi everyone, my 4 year old bunny Venti needs to get her back teeth trimmed. They are not overly long but I need to do them before they get uncomfortable for her. She has to go under anesthesia and I’m so scared I could possibly loose her trying to help her. On top of that it’s going to cost me $850! I can barely afford it but it needs to be don…[Read more]

That’s so hard. My only thought would be to try some different neutral spaces that are larger. Maybe if they can get used to a larger space that’s neutral first they wont have as many issues in the non-neutral?

Could be. Thought it was his personality and it’s people mistaking his energy for age because he can be calm. I have to trim his fur and he does super well. Left to his own in a small space he’s calm too, just like to jump on things. He is the first bun that I always have to grid in to pick him up, otherwise too fast; I’ve very calm/gentle and…[Read more]

Paperwork from shelter vet said, age related scrotum wrinkles (I’ve only seen fixed buns before so *shrugs*).

Hmm… perhaps he is younger than they thought he was. It might explain why he’s so hyper. Like if he was 6 months old, then maybe he’s 1.5 years?

Yeah, it could just be the default description in whatever software they use.

You can combine enrofloxacin and metronidazole. They work in different ways. Is the vet recommending taking the enrofloxacin for an extended period? It is safe to give for longer periods. Metronidazole, however, is only supposed to be given for a short period of time. I’m sorry the vet is so far away. My bunny freaks out going to the vet as well,…[Read more]

My guess is chicken-flavored is the default, as many vets have outside pharmacies compound their prescriptions with flavors to make them more agreeable for pets! It’s probably a mistake and they can likely get you one with a different flavor if you point it out.

I once gave my bun beef flavoredprobiotic pellets. They were recommended by his vet, back then there weren’t any rabbit/herbivore probiotics where I am. Everything was for cats and dogs.
That said, it’s strange that your vet prescribed chicken-flavored metronidazole, but maybe they have to prescribe metronidazole licensed for animals? Happened…[Read more]

Hello all!
My rabbit is currently being treated for a UTI and was prescribed enrofloxacin to take along with a probiotic. Long story short, the enrofloxacin eliminated all of her symptoms besides the occasional blood she is having in her urine. After 10 days of being of this, vet attempted to change her antibiotics to azithromycin. This really…[Read more]

Haha, because of his energy, the shelter told me NewBoyBun was 1yr but in their paperwork from one yr ago, they already wrote 1yr while their vet wrote 2yr (something about the condition of his balls -_-). They gave him more pellets than they gave normal buns. Don’t know if this matters, but he was part of a large scale breeder dump/fled thing and…[Read more]

Thank you so much for your reply. My vet is about an hour and half away from us and round trip, the buns are typically in the car for over 3 hours. She is the best and most experienced vet I have been to which is why I continue taking them there. She just prescribed metronidazole to begin taking along with the enrofloxacin and I am picking it up…[Read more]
